Eight days after we told you about businessman David Perdue’s remarks on the credentials of “the high school graduate in this race” he called former Secretary of State Karen Handel to apologize.
But Handel is in no mood to let it go.
Earlier today she released a radio ad using the Perdue audio to make the case that Perdue has “lost touch with our values.” Shortly after the call was over, Handel sent out a press release saying she accepted the apology. And then:
“But the apology is not owed to me—it is owed to the many other Georgians he demeaned. I believe in an America where the circumstances in which we grow up do not determine our ability to achieve. America has always been the land of opportunity for all—not just some.”
Reporters’ inboxes were quickly pinged with another Handel campaign missive attributed to a prominent supporter, state Sen. Josh McKoon, R-Columbus:
“David Perdue’s ‘apology’ reeks of political expediency. Last week when asked about the comments, David’s spokesman said they were just based on facts that are a matter of public record. The next day, the same spokesman said he wasn’t aware of a suggestion that an apology was in order.
“After a week of receiving negative national attention, and being ridiculed as an out-of-touch self-funding elitist who thinks he can buy this election, David’s political consultants have seen the writing on the wall.”
Spokesman Derrick Dickey provided the Perdue take on the call:
“David made a heartfelt personal call to Ms. Handel that was intended to remain private. He contacted her directly for no other reason than to let her know he was sorry for the comment. There is certainly no expectation for her to change campaign tactics.”

Why is an apology needed? If Handel hadn’t made a big deal about it, I probably wouldn’t have realized this about her background. As it is, it’s a negative, along with the fact that she’s always been a gov’t type. She’s a pretty good gov’t type, from all I can tell, but the complete lack of private sector background is cause for concern, more so than the lack of a college degree.
I’m currently leaning Perdue, FWLIW. I’m going to go to an appearance on Saturday.

I think an apology was needed because Perdue’s language reflected an aristocratic and elitest attitude. “why, you’re not credentialed for this office!”
There are exactly three qualifications for the office of US Senate and a college degree isn’t one of them. Perdue was quite properly humbled. Skirmish over, on with the campaign.

Some people have a hard time trying to see the difference between education and intelligence; the presence of one does not absolutely indicate the presence of the other.

For me the race is narrowing.
Well, Gingrey is out for his support for Gun Control.
Perdue is out for being a wimp. (Stand by what you say - or don’t say it!)
I like Broun, but I am open to the remaining candidates as well.

Yes you are so right. These two are neither one going to make much of a difference in Washington. I’m voting for Paul Broun. If we don’t elect him you will see another moderate GA senator voting with the leadership on every bill. Raise the debt ceiling, OK on Amnesty yada, yada, yada, You will not see Handel or Purdue standig shoulder to shoulder with Ted Cruz, Rand Paul and Mike Lee.
If push comes to shove I guess my second choice is Handel. Purdue is a no go for me.
We will also prolly get antother four years of Nathan “Raw” Deal as Governor. Another RINO. I’m voting for David Pennington in the primary and urge all georgians to do the same.
On the same page miss. So far, no candidates have managed to sway us away from our initial thoughts for Broun, Pennington and Chapman in the primary here on the coast, (although Dr. Bob Johnson is proving to be much more interesting than we expected ;).
We shall see what the 20th leaves us down this way, but dear Lord, please - not Buddy Carter. He took part in a local forum the other night, and the man’s arrogance is quite off-putting. He was the only one who never interacted in any fashion with the other candidates on the dais, just sat there staring straight ahead until it was his turn to speak. We supposed his intent was that in ignoring the competition, he lessened their importance in the mind of the voter, laughs, but instead it gave the impression that he considered them unworthy of his attention... And that reinforced a much worse one - that for our “representative”, an evening spent in the company of the electorate was akin to the 9th circle of Hell ;)
Please Georgians, choose very carefully. We cannot afford to add to the ranks of the political elite.

Well we have to keep Carter out of the Governor’s mansion but its hard to tell the difference with Nathan Deal at this point. He was pushing SPLOST, he is jamming Common Core down our throats and he intervened in the GA legislature to water down our gun legislation. That’s what I would expect a Democrat to do.
And like everythig else in his black democrat community organizer life given to him rather than earned by him.
