Divorce Beltway Style.. The Democratic breakup that exposes Washington’s rotten core
Washington Free Beacon ^ | April 11, 2014 | Matthew Continetti

Posted on 04/11/2014 11:36:29 AM PDT by george76

how obscene wealth can be amassed through rent-seeking and influence-peddling in Washington D.C., and of the hoary means by which the princelings of the capital and their consorts maintain and grow that wealth. They tell stories not only of an ugly divorce, but of the power of lobbying, of how one family maneuvered to the center of the nation’s dominant political party, of the transactional relationships, gargantuan self-regard, and empty posturing that insulates, asbestos-like, the D.C. bubble.

That the broken couple now uses the tools of their trade—the phone-call to a friend, the selective leaking of documents, the hiring of attorneys, the launch of a public-relations campaign—against one another is more than ironic. It is fitting. Tony and Heather Podesta reached the pinnacle of wealth and influence in Barack Obama’s Washington. Now they, like he, are in eclipse.

...

As government expands, extending its reach to every aspect of business, every sector of the economy, private citizens and corporations require sherpas to lead them through the mountains of regulations and tax provisions, to discover exemptions and special favors and other forms of relief or favoritism to improve the bottom line. And who better to act as sherpas than the relatives of the Democrats who impose the regulations and tax provisions in the first place, who better than the lively proprietors of a family business operating in the luxurious and morally uncomplicated world of the caste of limousine liberals who dominate politics, culture, news, and finance.

Corporations give to Democratic politicians, avoiding the scrutiny of liberal attack dogs in the media and nonprofit sectors, and enjoying the ego boost that comes with being on the “right side of history.” Then those corporations hire the Podestas to get them out of the Rube Goldberg traps the Democrats have enacted into law.

It really is sickening isn’t it? Power corrupts absolutely.

But will it be reported by the mainstream Stasi stenographers?

This isn’t just a Dem game. The GOPe is just as corrupt. Both groups are anti America and need to be dealt with as such.

I'm no fan of the GOPe, but they are not just as corrupt. Not even close. Not even in the same ballpark. I get tired of people drawing a moral equivalence when there is none.

Mitch McConnell is a turtle faced thug and John Boehner is a ineffectual crybaby sellout, but neither come anywhere near as close to Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi in the corruption department.

Neither have either of the last two GOPe presidents, the Bush son and father. At worst, the GOPe might be compared to the last Democrat administration which reasonably could be called a little bit patriotic, that of John F. Kennedy.

This isn't to say I support that hive of scum and villains we call the GOPe. It is merely to point out that their level of corruption isn't even in the same league as that of the Overt Marxist Party.

“The GOPe is just as corrupt.”

Au Contraire !

I ask you which party has the easier time of stealing whatever they want right before your very eyes and the media looks the other way?

Hell, a GOP congressman can’t even kiss a lady under the mistletoe at a Christmas party. That becomes a national scandal calling for his head.

I agree that the GOP is just as corrupt as the Democrats. Sorry! In chasing money, votes and power for the sake of money ,votes and power the GOP exhibits its shameful nature in illegal immigration. The Democrats want votes from illegals, the GOP wants cheap labor for their rich buddy's. Both parties sacrifice the good of all for their personal well being. The idiot Republicans thinking only in economic terms are killing themselves as the Democrats are thinking in political terms. America is in the process of being conquered by the Third World with the connivance of our own politicians.

I watched The 5 yesterday on Fox and Bob Beckels one more thing was telling the kissing congressman to get out of politics and leave the office that he disgraced.
Greg Gutfeld then said,”Do you think Hillary will weigh in on this”?
I don’t think Beckel had an inkling where Gutfeld was going with the comment.

This is how it is done, folks.

In 2009, with the inauguration of Obama and the dawn of unified Democratic control of Washington, business boomed. Revenues at Tony’s firm close to doubled, and revenues at Heather’s firm increased by 50 percent. The money has continued to roll in. The Podesta Group had some $13 million in lobbying income in 2013, sporting clients such as Lockheed Martin, Wells Fargo, U.S. Airways, Walmart, and the National Biodiesel Board. Heather Podesta + Partners made some $4 million, lobbying on behalf of health companies, the American Beverage Association, Brookfield Power, DeVry University, and others. A portion of that money was recycled, contributing to Democratic campaigns, opening up avenues of influence: Tony gave some $45,500 in 2013, all to Democrats; Heather some $95,798 to Democrats, Democratic committees, and liberal groups.

Expat, we may have to hire one of these “sherpas” to figure out how to invest in a few years.

Just because they ratted out by the media doesn’t mean that they are less corrupt.

“The GOPe is just as corrupt.”

Maybe the stupidest comment I’ve seen on this forum all day.

The democrat party is a criminal enterprise. The GOP is lame, way too ineffectual, and shot through with opportunists and place-sitters.

BUT there isn’t a single Democrat I’d trust as a village board member, let alone a state or federal office holder. At least among the Republicans one can find the occasional Cruz, Palin, West, Goudy, Gohmert, Lee, and the like. Throwing all Republicans in the same pot as the donkeys (and granted *some* sure deserve it) just leads to California or Chicago - one-party rule by the slimiest of the political class.

Our goal should be to put the Democrat party out of business everywhere we can, and then let the establishment GOP, libertarians, Tea Partiers, and others fight over the direction of the country.

This nation would be so much better off if Washington, D.C. were suddenly nuked. Or smote from above as were Sodom and Gomorrah. Nothing good happens there.

I’ve never seen hoary used in that manner. Did the author mean “whorey?”

McCain is a hoary old man.

Maybe the author needs homonym help.

Not one republican voted for Obamacare. Not one republican voted to scam the insurance companies to line their pockets.

What I find still incredulously amazing is that not ONE democrat voted against Obamacare. Not ONE democrat looked out for the country and decided to do the right thing. Not ONE patriot in the bunch. Not ONE honest democrat in their never ending drive for power.
