Nevada Cattle Rancher Wins 'Range War' With Feds
abc ^ | April 12, 2014 | Liz Field

A Nevada cattle rancher appears to have won his week-long battle with the federal government over a controversial cattle roundup that had led to the arrest of several protesters.

Cliven Bundy went head to head with the Bureau of Land Management over the removal of hundreds of his cattle from federal land, where the government said they were grazing illegally.

Bundy claims his herd of roughly 900 cattle have grazed on the land along the riverbed near Bunkerville, 80 miles northeast of Las Vegas, since 1870 and threatened a "range war" against the BLM on the Bundy Ranch website after one of his sons was arrested while protesting the removal of the cattle.

"I have no contract with the United States government," Bundy said. "I was paying grazing fees for management and that's what BLM was supposed to be, land managers and they were managing my ranch out of business, so I refused to pay."

The federal government had countered that Bundy "owes the American people in excess of $1 million " in unpaid grazing fees and "refuses to abide by the law of land, despite many opportunities over the last 20 years to do so."

However, today the BLM said it would not enforce a court order to remove the cattle and was pulling out of the area.

"Based on information about conditions on the ground, and in consultation with law enforcement, we have made a decision to conclude the cattle gather because of our serious concern about the safety of employees and members of the public," BLM Director Neil Kornze said.

Less intrusive and headline-grabbing to use drones than hundreds of JBTs, tasers dogs and snipers and risk a shootout.

They’ll “document” Bundy’s herd’s “felony grazing” and come back with a vengeance, after the criminal scumbag Reid&Co’s deal with Chi-Comm’s ENN solar co is sealed and done, and all back-tracks sanitized and scrubbed. Good thing FR’s got the original docs from Reid’s website.

It ain’t over.

...until Bundy pays the fees he legally owes, he is stealing from US taxpayers.

Spoken like a true Progressive. What do grazing fees accomplish other than raising the price of beef? The BLM doesn't use if for land management anymore. No one owes anything to the "US taxpayer."

The FED backing off is all about the midterm election. An outraged public isn’t going to vote for owebama’s party!

ATF retreated too when they first went after the Branch Davidians.

The Feds will be back, with more firepower.

As I said in an earlier thread..if the Bundy family were a bunch of stinky leftist hippies doing the exact same thing, many who defend Bundy on this board and media folks like Mr. Hannity would be calling them outlaws and thieves.

************

I won’t speak up for Hannity because you are probably correct there. He tests the wind and follows it IMO, and has a tedious abundance of opportunity to speak for himself.

I will speak up for many others on this board though, who WOULD have defended Bundy and his family if they were “a bunch of stinky leftist hippies doing the same thing”.

Bundy has an argument. Not a strong one, and based on archaic and even abandoned law, however wise or unwise it was to abandon those laws. He -should- have been paying in even while the fees were in dispute, IMO. Regardless, for the sake of argument say he is in the wrong.

That does not justify the abuse of others, the burlesque of lethal state threat and intimidation, the express malice, the attempted curtailment of the 1st Amendment on EVERYONE, and denial of use of the area to EVERYONE by the federal minions.

A guy parks in a no parking zone with his family. HE HAS BROKEN THE LAW! ‘Law Enforcement’ drags him out of the car and puts the muzzle of a pistol to his forehead and draws back the hammer until it clicks in place. Meanwhile his sister is dragged out and thrown to the ground, his sons pulled out, beaten up and one is detained (never arrested), the gathering crowd of observers are threatened with snipers, dogs, and tasers, and told to shut up and back off.

In America.

This isn’t about the illegal parking anymore.

This is about American ‘law enforcement’.

That is what -most- people here understand and are speaking up about. They have done it for ‘stinky hippies’ many, many times. Homeless people, mentally ill people, black people, brown people and others on many many threads where ‘law enforement’ was expressed as summary beatings or even summary executions.

My understanding is that the Bundy family are Mormons. I don’t like Mormons. The reasons are irrelevant. I support the Bundy family in this. It doesn’t matter to me that they are Mormons. It doesn’t matter to me that, IMO, their legal arguments are invalid. Why? Because the ‘law enforcement’ being applied to them is insanely disproportionate, sadistic, Statist, and not to be countenanced. In the totality of these circumstances, anyone who would not support the Bundy family against the clones in sunglasses has no comprehension of liberty, due process, or proportion.

“First they came for the stinky leftist hippies, and I didn’t say anything, because I was not a stinky leftist hippy.” Oh, but that is untrue. That lesson has been learned over the years. MANY on this board have that lesson NAILED.

I don’t care if they are Mormons, stinky hippies, Zoroastrians, or watch game shows and make puns. They were and are worthy of defense, and most of us here in one way or another have defended them. The REAL hard part is praying for the clones in sunglasses, and struggling to not hate them. That I will plead guilty to. I truly hate those sons of bitches.

“Bundy has paid fees to the Nevada county.”

People can rationalize Bundy’s actions all they want but the fact remains that the county refused the money and informed Bundy that he owed the money to the US government. He knew then that the county wouldn’t take the money because it wasn’t their land.

Since then he has refused to pay the BLM what they are legally owed. The BLM works for the taxpayers (whether they do a good job or not is irrelevant) therefore by not paying BLM, Bundy is stealing from US taxpayers.

Bundy isn’t a Lexington Minuteman, he is someone who used something that didn’t belong to him for many years, ignoring numerous warnings and court orders and doesn’t want to pay for it. I don’t think he is much different than a welfare cheat.

I don’t think they will do much until after the midterms.

Owebama was scared to death that shooting would start because the public aren’t on his side on this issue.

It would become a campaign issue in every western state.

$h!t, Mooch spends that as her “per diem” when she vacations on the taxpayers dime. Make her stay home and leave Bundy alone.

You might want to learn a little US history. User fees on public property have been around since the Republic was founded in 1787. They are much fairer than income taxes since if you don’t use, you don’t pay.

If you think anybody can use US taxpayer property however they want, whenever they want at no cost, then you speak like a true Anarchist.

He’s not stealing anything. He didn’t take anything from you. What I’m against is BS regulations like ‘grazing fees’ is about tantamount as taxing the air you breath that some liberal bureaucrat thought of to squeeze US citizens out of their earned money.

Oh the reason that the Feds cite as a pretext moving in on Bundy is because to protect the “endangered” turtles or tortoises. No, that’s not the reason as pointed out to you above. As it has been reported the Feds killed off 1,000 of these land turtles “for reasons” of overpopulation.

And youmight want to learn a little Nevada/BLM history before going off on this particular subject. you will find how those ‘fees’ were and are weaponized to drive people off public lands.

Learn or not. your choice. But history is what it is.

First off I didn’t say everyone on this board. There are many here who are fair, consistent and stick up for the wronged no matter what but there also are plenty of folks here (myself included sometimes) who let partisanship color our view of things sometimes. That’s human nature.

I’d love to think this is over. The Feds will just rearrange the deck chairs and come back again. Harry Reid and his son must be thoroughly investigated, and it needs to start now. Where there’s smoke ..
