Bernie Sanders seeks to pull Democrats left in 2016 primary

WASHINGTON — Bernie Sanders has been calling activists and traveling the country with a question: Could he vault from his US Senate seat representing what is fondly called the People’s Republic of Vermont to the White House?

His next stop in search of an answer is the first presidential primary state of New Hampshire, where this weekend he plans to bring his campaign complaint about America becoming an “oligarchic society.’’

The lawmaker, who is possibly the most liberal of all members of Congress — and the only one to call himself a democratic socialist — said in an interview this week that he is sincere in his quest to pull the presidential campaign dialogue hard to the left. He said he will make a decision about getting into the 2016 presidential contest by January.

“It would be a serious campaign,” said the Vermont independent, who was elected to the House in 1990 and the Senate in 2006. “What I am proposing is a political revolution in this country.”

His chances of winning the nomination would be rated as slim, at best, if he got in. But Sanders undoubtedly would inject liberal passion into a Democratic primary. He also could challenge Senator Elizabeth Warren, a Massachusetts Democrat, for unofficial leadership of the nation’s progressives.

“A Communist is a liberal with absolute power control. The liberals in America control the White House, Senate and the Media. If they had control of House and Supreme Court, re-education camps would be in use right now.”

That’s a fact.

Class warrior Bernie’s been sucking off the public teat in our parasitic Congress for a long while.

(Sniffle) At the same time, Bernie’s been engaged in the thankless eternal struggle of the oppressor vs the oppressed (sob).

Now, if I were Bernie, I would not even try to “target” conservatives. That could get him in deep, deep doo-doo.

Only in those states that did not secede from this "glorious" Union.

Bernie is a whack job. Always has been.

Probably running so he can use any campaign money he gets for his retirement in some way.

Like any good Commie.

How much farther left can they go?

ideologically speaking not far...they are calling themselves progressive rather than communist since communists have such a wonderful history of love and tolerance (snark) only 100 million plus dead in the 20th century...

But all these American "progressives" are basically all mouth and little action...

A real "progressive" would be calling for the gulags to be filled with "wrong thinking" americans that need to get their minds right...

Remember progressives think "1984" is a playbook not a novel...

“Such a party would probably peel off somewhere around 3 to 5 percent of voters from the Dem’s “

I think that the democrat progressive party could get Much More than 3 or 5% of democrats. Extreme Redistribution for a democrat is a much easier sell than the libertarian message ‘small government’ is for the republicans. Which of these democrat vote fraud loving constituents would turn down an opportunity to stick it to the rich by voting for the leftist communist chavez party. Properly Marketed, the democrat progressives could easily demagogue 15 o 20% away from the DNC Candidates.

I wholeheartedly then support the formation of a group to move the democrats farther to the left.

So, full-on Marxism is simply not enough?

What, bio-computer chips to prevent us from thinking about anything but communism?

Marxists like my sister and her husband appreciate Obama, but they adore Sanders and Warren.

Warren is nothing but resentment and envy. With all due respect, your sister, and her husband, must be nasty pieces of work.

Good thing the libs don't own guns. And this is why they are trying to 're-educate' the military.

George McGovern went way out on the left in 1972 and wrecked the democrat party until Jimmy Carter came along and saved it in 1976.sarc

A lot. On economic issues, the Democrats today routinely support wealthy interests over the interests of workers. Modern Democrats allow Wall St. to run the economy, make no effort to close tax loopholes for the super rich and multi-national corporations and allow financial crooks to walk free as long as they pay bribes in the form of campaign donations. Witness the embezzler John Corzine.

Modern liberalism is largely an alliance of the rich and poor against the middle.

Conservatives should be aware that a populist shift in the Democratic party will be popular with voters. An Elizabeth Warren candidacy would have high turnout and a lot of enthusiasm on their side. Warren, IMO, would beat Jeb easily.

The more pro-establishment the GOP goes for 2016, the more going populist makes political sense for the Democrats.

College educated Democrats are very upset with the Obama and Hillary for not taking on big banks and corruption. The Democratic base of low information welfare users and aggrieved victim groups also shares these views, but won’t get restless as long as the welfare and identity politics pandering keep flowing. Democrats are not going to lose any votes by going after corrupt wealthy interests.

The headline is wrong. It's not about Sanders pulling the Democrat Party leftward. It's about Sanders being the only HONEST Democrat.

Democrats are full-blown socialists who know that the only way to get there is to hide their intentions while slowly creeping in that direction. If you were to go back to 1995 or 2000 and accuse the Democrats of wanting to implement all the Orwellian left-wing garbage that is in place now from Obama care to campus speech codes, zero tolerance insanity in schools, universal gay marriage imposed by the courts, etc, etc, they would shake their heads and tell us no, no, no. We just want to change the dialogue, we don't need solutions that extreme, yada, yada, yada.

Make no mistake about it. If the Democrats were left in power unchecked, in less than ten years we'd have all the socialist policies Sanders is calling for, yet no prominent Democrat would advocate socialism honestly along the way.

By today’s standards McGovern was a moderate.

Yup. Dems already tried it. Early in Obama administration Pelosi's House passed entire Democratic platform including the kitchen sink, and sent it to the Senate. Only Republican filibusters and Scott Brown's election stopped some of it.

“Warren, IMO, would beat Jeb easily.”

Jeb will lose to anyone the Democrats put up. Today’s American electorate is more likely to vote for an Obama third term than any Bush.

George W. Bush failed to go over the heads of the Democrats and the media directly to the American people. He also refused to fight the Democrats. As a result the Democrats, with the media, defined him and his family for generations.

No matter what they say about wanting civility in politics, the American people respect politicians who fight for their agenda. If voters didn’t demonstrate this preference for fighter at the polls we wouldn’t see vicious partisan behavior demonstrated by the Clinton’s, James Carville, Barack Obama, Eric Holder, Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi, Chuck Schumer, Debbie Wasserman Schultz, Elizabeth Warren, Diane Feinstein, Elijah Cummings, etc, etc, etc.

Leo Durocher was often quoted as saying “nice guys finish last.” The saying is true of sports and definitely the blood sport of politics. Ask George H.W. Bush, Bob Dole, George W. Bush, Mitt Romney and even the nasty John McCain. The truth is McCain played “nice” (against his character) in the 2008 campaign with effusive praise for his opponent and lost as a result.

Jeb is already signaling if he runs in 2016 he wants to run a “nice” campaign. If he gets the nomination and runs against Hillary, O’Malley, Cuomo, Warren, Patrick, or any of the other potential Democrat candidates he will lose. Period.

Obama has so many skeletons in his closet due to his associations with the radical far left, yet the GOP wouldn’t even mention these things. They would rather lose and lecture the people in their party who want to win.
