By 1869 Americans had completed construction of a transcontinental railroad, which spanned nearly 2,000 miles. In 1903, Americas Wright brothers flew the first powered air craft in world history. By 1969, United States citizens had walked on the moon. If all you knew of America was her citizens accomplishments, it would be enough. They speak for themselves.
American statesmen have left such phrases as a day that will live in infamy, ask not what your country can do for you and a shining city upon a hill ringing in their compatriots ears, and for good reason. No nation in the history of the world has accomplished what America has. It is part of what makes America a world leader.
British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher once said, Being powerful is like being a lady. If you have to tell people you are, you arent. Due to a lack of strong leadership at home, Americas place in the world is slipping. As President of the United States, Barack Obama is literally the most powerful man alive. Thats not a theory; its a fact. But he does not act like it. The office of the presidency is worth great respect, but our president seems detached from it. He certainly does not garner the respect, peppered with a little fear, which should be due to an American president.
President Obama recently defended his appearance on Zack Galifianakis comedy show Between Two Ferns by claiming that President Lincoln would have done the interview. Abraham Lincoln is one of the most revered presidents in our history, so the idea that he would go online (this interview was not on cable) with a man who has made some of the crudest movies in American history is doubtful to say the least.
While Russian President Vladimir Putin is illegally annexing a part of Ukraine, President Obama is on television explaining to the country why he chose Michigan State to win the NCAA college basketball national championship or joining Ellen Degeneres on her talk show in hopes young people will sign up for his signature law. Priorities? I understand the new-age of technology, but really? Could you look more out of touch with the harsh realities the world faces today?
Instead of leading, President Obama has continually pushed partisanship, and spouted talking points that have led to the biggest lie of last year, and an investigation of the IRS for playing politics.
Sadly, I fear this is all lost on many voters in my generation. I fear that Millennials look for the wrong qualities in a president. Words like, cool and swag shouldnt come to mind when deciding who you will vote for. We should be looking at what qualifies the person for the position of president: that persons character, leadership, integrity, experience and so on. These matter more than being cool. And these are not lost to history: They lead to actions of true importance ones that will be remembered for generations to come.
Obama has single-handedly quashed any prestige that office once held. It is singularly lawless. It is an office of tyranny as far as I’m concerned. It warrants no consideration, no respect and no quarter. We have a confirmed enemy as our commander in chief, IMO.
President Belshazzar.
Holds his parties but can’t be bothered being a leader otherwise.
It's not the loss of prestige that is most dangerous, it's the loss of legitimacy. A government with no legitimacy can only rule through force or through fear. Once we have a real president again, his (or her - Sarah!) highest priority should be restoring legitimacy and the rule of law. Unconstitutional laws, executive orders, regulations, and policies should be repealed wholesale. ObamaCare must go. Gun laws, including the one on silencers, must go. Redistribution of wealth must go. Waivers for criminals who entered our country illegally must go. It is time for a thorough housecleaning.
That’s him alright
Understand, but to my mind prestige and legitimacy go hand-in-hand. You cannot have legitimacy in the face of outright determination to devolve the prestige. And, this is something that Obama has striven for from day one. He is nothing more than a tyrant backed up by all the foul will of those here that seek control over others. They act like he is Messiah; he is Damien.
The empire is on auto-pilot. We are living in and spending the fruits of the Pax Americana, so the country is indulging in the folly of useless or corrupt emporers.
Keeping in mind Belshazzar was the son of a man who worshipped the moon god.... there’s another angle to make the comparison fit.
He was eventually slain by his servants acting under orders to defend and protect the palace.
American statesmen have left such phrases as if you like your doctor you can keep your doctor.
He’s just an employee. A bad one too.
Writer is an idiot. Everybody knows it’s ‘Intercontinental Railroad’. Obama said so.
Due to the 17th Amendment, powers retained by the states since 1787 were immediately transferred to DC. Several hundred congressman, a prez and handful of judges got it all. Today, the law is what Obama says it is, and rules as you say, through fear and force.
Elections are merely courtesy fornications to lend legitimacy to tyranny.
We now have 5 years worth of actual proof that you can’t send a second rate clown to do a man’s job and have it turn out well.
Truer words were never spoken.
The only problem is I think the guy is doing a heck of a job destroying the US economy and the capitalistic system. He is just creating total chaos.
