Look for a Climate Credit from the State of California on Your April Utility Bill
This month your electricity bill will include a credit identified as the "California Climate Credit." Twice a year, in April and October, your household and millions of others throughout the state will receive this credit on your electricity bills.
The Climate Credit is a payment to Californians from a program designed to fight climate change by limiting the amount of greenhouse gas pollution that our largest industries put into the atmosphere.
This program is one of many developed as a result of landmark legislation called the Global Warming Solutions Act of 2006, which puts California at the forefront of efforts to battle climate change. Other programs under this law increase clean, renewable forms of electricity, promote energy efficiency in homes and businesses, and require cleaner fuels, and more efficient cars and trucks.
Together, these programs will aid in reducing greenhouse gas emissions that trap heat in the atmosphere–helping to clean the air and protect our food, water, and public health, as well as the beauty of our state.
The Climate Credit is designed to help you join with California in its efforts to fight climate change and clean the air. You can use the savings on your electricity bills however you choose, but you can save even more money by investing the bill savings from your Climate Credit in energy-saving home upgrades, including more efficient lights and appliances. California's greenhouse gas reduction programs provide a range of powerful solutions to help slow climate change, one of the greatest challenges facing society. By gradually reducing emissions each year and moving to cleaner forms of energy, we are taking an important step to preserve the health and prosperity of our state for generations to come.
But it’s an “incentive” to make me want to conserve energy to save the planet. All the cool kids are doing it.
Sure it is, all happy and incentivy like.
Only a really bad-thinker would see it as a penalty for NOT saving the planet.

Climate change has been going on from beginning of time.
There have been ice ages, followed by global warming.
It is never smart to deny climate change. Because then you are wrong based on earth’s history.
What is smart is to deny MAN MADE climate change.
We got one of those ‘conservation incentive’ bills last year. I called them and cussed them like dogs. I asked how the heck Am i supposed to conserve energy when it’s 114 outside and their ‘allowance’ would barely keep a lizard alive!?!?
I was so excited about my climate change credit that I went out an bought 5 cans of sterno to burn.
Very nice. I will use mine to pay my bill since PG&E recently got another rate increase and our already outrageous bill went up again. I doubt if the credit equals the rate increase.

Though I’m pretty sure, they’d find a way to tie pounding sand to Globall Warming.
What. A. Bunch. Of. Jerks.
So they penalize big industries by either taxing them more or causing them to go “green.” Those costs have to be recovered by increasing their prices, or if they have too much competition outside the state, they have to relocate outside the state. The tax payer pays for this.
Then, the state takes money from the taxes and passes it out to voters to get them to like the plan. After all, it’s free money. Until you realize that you’re paying more for goods and services because the big industries are passing the cost along to the consumer.
But, hey, it’s a politically correct cause, it gives more power to liberals, and they mean well. Failure is completely acceptable if it meets those criteria.
