Here is a selection of items from Friday’s release of documents from the Clinton presidency. The cache is part of a total of about 33,000 pages of presidential records that had been held back from various public records releases because of legal reasons exempting them from disclosure. An undated document lays out the White House analysis of what it saw as media attacks driven by right-wing organizations, that then filtered out to mainstream publications. These concerns gained prominence when Hillary Clinton complained of a “vast right-wing conspiracy” in 1998.

Eat This Note
In a series of documents related to the Citigroup-Travelers megadeal, one handwritten note ask the reader to “Please eat this paper after you have read it.”
Keep It Short
Mr. Clinton’s advisers warned him to be on guard after he gave a 1995 speech to the American Society of Newspaper Editors, noting that the question and answer period with that group had gotten him in trouble the year before.
“The audience, major newspaper editors, virtually guarantees that the ASNE speech will be treated seriously,’’ advisors said in a memo on upcoming speeches. “However, the Q&A session following the speech poses a major trap. Last year, you delivered a thoughtful speech to the ASNE that was drowned out by your assessment of the press’s coverage of Whitewater in response to a questions… your responses to Q&A should be perfunctory enough to keep attention whereit belongs: on the speech.”
