WH Counterterror Chief: Parents Need to Watch for ‘Sudden Personality Changes in Their Children'

In a speech delivered at Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government on Tuesday evening, White House Homeland Security and Counterterrorism Adviser Lisa Monaco said it could help prevent terrorism if parents watched for “sudden personality changes in their children at home.”

“President Obama has been laser-focused on making sure we use all the elements of our national power to protect Americans, including developing the first government-wide strategy to prevent violent extremism in the United States,” said Monaco, in a transcription posted by the White House.

They’re more subtle. For instance, parents might see sudden personality changes in their children at home—becoming confrontational. Religious leaders might notice unexpected clashes over ideological differences. Teachers might hear a student expressing an interest in traveling to a conflict zone overseas. Or friends might notice a new interest in watching or sharing violent material.

This is pretty typical stuff for a lot of teens going through puberty.

I have been warning parents about a predictable change in their children for decades.

My warning went/goes like this: “On the 12th year, 364th day of your child’s life. They will go to sleep as a loved child, who loved its parents.

During the night the devil replaced that wonderful child with a teenager demon, whose main purpose in life was to make life miserable for the parents and siblings for the next 7 years.

Then, I told them, parents are not doing their job with that teen, unless they hear several times a day that they are the worst parents in the world, and no parents of their friends are as dumb and as mean as they are.

Keeping loving them and saying no. When they turn 20 something, the devil will start leaving the child alone.

Then, you are glad that you didn’t kill them or throw them out of your house. Your bad teen is gone, and a good adult has replaced that horrible teen creature.

We can’t believe how many parents years later after surviving their teenagers have thanked us for that simple warning and advise.

Up until now it’s been the children’s duty to watch and report on their parents.

Lisa Monaco and Harry Reid today held a joint press conference and listed the 10 signs that parents need to be on the look out for to ensure that their little 10 year old does not grow up to be a domestic terrorist:

10) The wearing of chaps before 10AM.

9) Finding your 6 year old daughter tied to a tree in the backyard and your son claims that they were just playing cowboys and Indians.

8) Your son develops a fondness for girls named Dale.

7) Your son is caught starting a fire in the backyard and he claims it was to send smoke signals. Disregard if you discover that he was really smoking marijuana with his friends.

6) If you discover him whittling wood in his bedroom at night.

5) If you discover your son running around the house naked and he claims it is because his Lucas McCain underwear is still in the wash.

4) Your son wants to name family pets names like; sagebrush or tumbleweed.

3) If your son calls his dad pardner.

2) If your son spends his afternoons in the backyard practicing his, 'quickdraw'.

1) Your son gave up XBOX so that he could watch a Roy Rogers marathon on TV.
