The Hilarious History of 'Climate Tipping Points'

The UN is trying to scare us into believing we have only 15 years left. It looks ridiculous doing so, considering all the similar declarations that have come and gone.

A brief history of “climate tipping point” declarations discloses that the only scary hot air comes from warmist blowhards. Marc Morano at Climate Depot debunks the fake hysteria being generated to jjstify a massive tax and power grab:

According to the Boston Globe, the United Nations has issued a new climate “tipping point” by which the world must act to avoid dangerous global warming.

The Boston Globe noted on April 16, 2014: “The world now has a rough deadline for action on climate change. Nations need to take aggressive action in the next 15 years to cut carbon emissions, in order to forestall the worst effects of global warming, says the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change.”

Once again, the world is being warned of an ecological or climate “tipping point” by the UN.

In 1982, the UN issued a two decade tipping point. UN official Mostafa Tolba, executive director of the UN Environment Program (UNEP), warned on May 11, 1982, the “world faces an ecological disaster as final as nuclear war within a couple of decades unless governments act now.” According to Tolba in 1982, lack of action would bring “by the turn of the century, an environmental catastrophe which will witness devastation as complete, as irreversible as any nuclear holocaust.”

Yeah, tipping points exist ... we pass one about every 400,000,000 years.

Climatically, we encountered some sort of tipping point about 3,000,000 years ago when the Pliocene climate broke down and we started getting episodes of continental glaciation and savage swings in climatic conditions.

My personal inspection of the temp + temp-proxy trends for the last 250,000 years or so (published by the Geological Society of America in the introduction to Volume X of the "Treatise on North American Geology") shows that interglacials last about 12,000 years, full glacial ("pleniglacial") conditions last about 25,000. Look it up. The volume in question had a subtitle something like (and you can find it on Amazon, it's actually available for acquisition there) "The Non-Glacial Quaternary Geology of North America".

We're just over 10,000 years into the current interglacial, and my own inspection of the curves (comparing interglacial to interglacial) suggests we've got 600-1800 years left, with 1200 years as a rough mode. What will happen when our time's up is that temps will crash and world climate will dry up as moisture is sucked out of the atmosphere and dumped on the continents and mountain ranges as snow.

Item, during the last pleniglacial, the Amazon Basin was not a jungle, but an open savannah, rather like the Serengeti is now. Rain? It will still fall, but most of North America that is still cultivable, will be suitable only for dry-farming techniques, and you can forget those oceans of amber waving grain. Get it? We will likely have a population crash unless we can suddenly learn to fish the seas damn near dry and turn every bit of dry land to irrigation- and dry-farming. Oh, and did I mention sea levels dropping about 200-300'?

On the positive side, the Bahamas will suddenly become a country the size of Poland. Enjoy, everyone. And remember to burn some clean coal -- that CO₂ may be part of the blanket we need to keep from freezing the planet to death -- and keep the forests from asphyxiating, as they nearly did in the Pleistocene. (Final note: We are still in the Pleistocene. Please adjust mental reference points accordingly.)

it’s ALWAYS -MORE taxation; MORE regulation of US, not them.

When they cry: “we need to develop alternate energy...” it means they want US to finance some cockamamie business scam that THEY will personally ‘invest’ in - BILLIONS; TRILLIONS of OUR money into the thing til it fails.

And they laugh all the way to the bank.

This is the ONLY thing that is rock-solid about the whole ‘Climate Change’ issue.

Speaking of famines, I remember the late sixties and early seventies of the infamous Paul Ehrlich, he of "The Population Bomb" and predictions of vast, world-wide starvation THAT COULD NOT BE STOPPED!!! by anything man could do. Well then came Norman Borlaug and the Green Revolution. Multi-millions didn't starve.

But what irritates me is the implication that if other countries irresponsibly increase their populations beyond their ability to feed them, it's our duty to feed them. Which we do of course. The population of Africa is about twice as large as it was fifty years ago mostly thanks to civilized countries, like the U.S., feeding the incompetents. That is getting real tiresome.
