So Why is Mark Steyn No Longer at National Review? I didn't even find him in the contributing editors section. I do go to www.steynonline.com but reading Steyn was a good 40% of why I subscribe to NR.

Rich Lowry wants to be on the TV set. It is the reason he got rid of John Derbyshire - too conservative. WFB is spinning...

NR’s legal team is using a different strategy than Mark is. NR doesn’t want to be open to further action as Steyn continues poking and prodding Mann.

You still read magazines? So 1990s.

Mark Steyn now has his own website.

So you pretty much read something because of who wrote it rather than what the content might be?

Yeah, what's up with this whole "authors" thing?

The second line of my initial post mentions that I read him on line.

It is the reason he got rid of John Derbyshire - too conservative.

Derbyshire was not a conservative AT ALL. They should have gotten rid of him long before they did. He was an admitted bigot against Christians and an admitted racist. He was hostile to what most conservatives believe.

There were a couple of threads about this a month or so ago.
Basically, Jason Lee Steorts (Managing Editor), got his panties in a bunch over something Steyne wrote on NRO - I copied the whole exchange onto a word doc - I should post it as a thread, though, just to keep poking NR.

I'm sketching out a letter to send to the Publisher, who had come to Mark's defense. Not a screed type letter, just want to let him know I've been happily receiving NR for many years, but will not be renewing my subscription when it expires.
And to thank him for standing with Mark, and that I'll miss the many exceptional essays it normally contains, and the humor of Rob Long and James Lileks, and the great book reviews.

But I can read them elsewhere - and sometimes we have to make a stand on principle, especially when that principle is a panty-waist named Jason Lee Steorts.

Thanks.

I must have missed those threads. I am a subscriber but have been become disenchanted recently. When I finally realized Steyn was not on vacation and not on the masthead, and as far as I can remember the dweebs inform their readers or even offer,a godspeed...well, I needed to check in.

I would love to read your doc. Please ping me when you do get it up on FR?

So Why is Mark Steyn No Longer at National Review?

1. Steyn wrote something negative about Global Warmist Michael Mann in National Review.

2. Michael Mann sued Steyn and National Review for slander.

3. National Review wanted to settle the suit. Steyn wanted to pursue a counter-suit.

4. They agreed to go their separate ways.

4.

I love Nelson De Mille. I own some of his books in hardcover. I’ve read some of them three or four times.

I get his newsletter even and it is so enjoyable. He’s so funny. I even emailed him to tell him he doesn’t write fast enough. I get a book the day it comes out and poof - in a day or two I’m done and have to wait an eternity for the next one.

Such sweet sorrow!

I have it on good authority that this is either Mark Steyn or his dog.

Nothing vicious here.

Climate change has nothing to do with why Steyn was sacked. Steyn wrote a column that repeated a Bob Hope joke. The Editor said it was evil and homphobic and he didn’t want Steyn spewing his homophobia at NR.

Put another way, NR is staffed by timid, salaried gopee eunuchs while Steyn is a human Tasmanian Devil, a conservative dynamo with balls like church bells.
So to speak.

Never seen so many `comments removed by moderator’ on any thread I’ve ever read on FR.

“Mark Steyn is a vicious homophobe.” So, what’s the big deal, at NR or anywhere else? I don’t get it.
