I’ve always been suspicious of the Westboro Baptist Church. They are just too over the top, ridiculous and convenient. I’d bet there are deeper connection between some of these “hate groups” and those who are paid money to monitor “hate groups” than it may appear at first glance.

SPLC connected to DHS
In a report from Oathkeepers:
http://oathkeepers.org/oath/2010/10/08/its-official-southern-poverty-law-center-is-now-part-of-dhs/
it has been discovered that two members of the SPLC sit on the DHS Working Group on Countering Violent Extremism
These members are:
Richard Cohen
President and CEO, Southern Poverty Law Center
Laurie Wood
Analyst, Southern Poverty Law Center / Instructor, Federal Law Enforcement Training Center
Here in Hawaii, the SPLC came to "train" DOE teachers, paying them $410, plus the DOE picking up expenses. Bob McDermott reported on this in CivilBeat:

Being called a hate group by the SPLC is a badge of honor.
