The Way-Back Machine: Polish Parliament Backs Pro-EU Protesters in Ukraine
Sofia News Agency ^ | December 3, 2013 | novinite.com

Poland's Parliament has adopted Tuesday a declaration expressing support for the European integration of Ukraine and Ukrainians who have taken to the streets after the scrapping of an Association Agreement with the EU.

In the resolution, the Sejm vows "full solidarity with the citizens of Ukraine, who with great determination show the world their desire to ensure their country's full membership in the EU."

At the same time, Polish MPs have expressed "deep concern" about the exacebation of tension in Ukrainian political and social life.

They called Ukrainian authorities to respect the principles of democracy, rule of law and the sovereignty of the people and refrain from any action that could lead to an escalation of violence.

The Polish Parliament further expressed the hope political actors in Ukraine will ensure the peaceful running of rallies, and will unite in a consensus regarding the European future of their country.

MPs also called the Parliaments of other EU countries to adopt measures to adopt policies to strengthen civil society in Poland, including visa facilitations for youth, cultural and NGO exchange.

For the 13th day in a row this Tuesday, tens of thousands of Ukrainians have walked out on the streets of Kiev and many other major cities to protest the freezing of the EU Association Agreement by Ukraine's government.

Many Ukrainians fear that this will move the country away from Europe and into an ever closing bond with Russia.

The protests turned violent over the weekend, after protesters and riot police clashed, leaving dozens wounded.

Senior Polish politicians, including Poland's President Bronislaw Komorowski and opposition leader and former PM Jaroslaw Kaczynski, have attended some of the pro-EU rallies in Ukraine.

The EU Association Agreement was supposed to be signed at last Friday's EU Eastern Partnership summit held in Lithuania's capital Vilnius.

The Easter Partnership initiative, spearheaded by Poland and Sweden, was launched by EU in 2009 in a bid to foster the gradual integration of former Soviet republics in Europe.

The reason I posted this thread is the spread across the net of a story posted in a leftist Polish magazine about Poland's government already early in the autumn 2013 offering assitance and training opportunities to people from the Ukrainian neo-nazi Right Sector. As far as I have been able to glean from a web-translation of the original article it does not contain any verifiable facts. However, as is mentioned in several articles citing that piece, the Polish authorities very early on suppported the demonstrators in Kiev and Lvov in a way that would hardly be acceptable between two democratic neighbouring countries. The Polish involvement in the Maidan protests were as far as I can remember never fully covered by the Western media.

Ping.

Thanks Scania.

This turned me on to Paul Craig Roberts.

Looks like he’s a goldbug, but other than that, how can conservatives not take a read of the columns written by a Reagan official ?

The troubling goldbug part is the simplest of all bankster scams and trips up the most stalwart business and finance people; government printing of paper dollars is 100% better than handing that authority over to private money interests, which will always be corrupted (and easily, since the don’t even have the very limited transparency that government has). And “backing” means that government STILL can’t print its own money without buying gold from banksters. Only when government prints its own money can it escape bankster control.

With all of Roberts’ quality information - he still puts Washington DC front and center. Must be careful to keep in mind that Washington is a beast that has a parasite inside it, and the parasite is the true enemy. Washington - along with governments of the other nations - is simply a hollowed out host that is being used as a weapon against people.

All that being said, Roberts’ commentary is quite scathing coming from a former Reagan official.

I was in Poland when this protest started and th enews stated that people were being bussed into Maidan. You are right, the western media never talked aobut it or even asked about it.

Nothing like Obama’s foreign policy to set things back eighty years or so. Poland sees the continent as caught between two rival empires once more and is taking the side of the one it perceives as less malevolent, even though both have equally malevolent intent.

It seems that the problem with Ukraine is that the Russians, under the sway of Putin, are using the same tactics and strategy as the EU, Poles, Germans, French and Brits, but are doing a much better job of it, in spite of the fact that the Russians are being responsive to the initiation of said tactics by the EU.

It must really fry the Western Socialist left, and their MSM sycophants, to be beat so badly at their own game.

“a leftist Polish magazine”

It is a neo-commie/porn/anti-Chrisitan/anti-western rag owned by a spokesman of 80’s commie government and with Soviet secret service employees working as “journalists”. They will print whatever Russian embassy tells them to print.

Yawn. Except that all the major EU countries are opposing the quick rout for Ukraine’s membership. There’s no power struggle between EU and Russia over Ukraine, If EU wanted Ukraine as badly as you say, they would have been in years ago.

...all the major EU countries are opposing the quick rout for Ukraine’s membership.

Too bad EU "membership" for Ukraine means EU administrative natural resource control, land grabs and debt slavery.

But Ukes will be able to pay it off, after generations of "austerity".

Yeah and Monasanto Nazis and what's not. Dude, EU has never really wanted Ukraine in, contrary to what you Putinists spread all over the place and once the obvious is pointed out, all you can do is change the subject. Now paste a shirtless Putin on a pony.

The part of Czechoslovakia taken in 1938 had been under dispute since 1918 and the Poles only occupied it to prevent the Germans from moving in when they took over the rest of Czechoslovakia in 1938.

In 1968, the Polish army was forced by the Russians to participate in the invasion. Polish tanks crossed the border, but with their guns turned backwards as a sign of protest.

There are long standing ties between the Western part of Ukraine and Poland (not always happy ones), but a lot of Western Ukrainians have seen the political and economic development of Poland since 1989 and want the same thing.

There is no way in hell that Poland will sit back and do nothing as Ukraine becomes a Russian satellite or even worse is re-annexed by the Russian Empire, and if the Russians have a 'right' to intervene for 'historical' reasons, why not the Poles?

The annexation if cieszyn in 1938 was a follow up.to
1920. In 1918 both apoland and Czechów were reborn. The duchy of cieczyn on the border between the two with an ethnically mixed population was a point of dispute. The locals were sensible and set up a joint governing area. But the czech govt took over the entire land. Poland grabbed it back in 1938 in a.silly move. But recently both sides.have agreed to the earlier, local, sensible agreement. Also the 1968 move was under.the Warsaw pact, another stupid move but pushed by the Kremlin. That move had the effect of galvanising the anti communist movement in poland that took a lead 14 years later and was instrumental in the collapse of the Soviet bloc

Correct. Poland needs buffer states between it and the Russian eagle. A buffer state is always a good idea. The loss of the Polish Lithuanian commonwealth in 1791 directly lead to ww1 as it put Germany and Austria-Hungary in direct contact with each other.
