This Earth Day, Tuesday, April 22, three former NASA astronauts will present new evidence that our planet has experienced many more large-scale asteroid impacts over the past decade than previously thought
three to ten times more, in fact. A new visualization of data from a nuclear weapons warning network, to be unveiled by B612 Foundation CEO Ed Lu during the evening event at Seattle's Museum of Flight, shows that "the only thing preventing a catastrophe from a 'city-killer' sized asteroid is blind luck."
Happy Easter - HE is risen!
Can rabbis stop meteorites from hitting the Earth? You bet your asteroids they can!
How did we not notice “several large scale asteroid impacts” over the past decade? Did they all hit in the border area between the US and Mexico? That seems to be the only place in the world that the US government can’t see.
I’m so sick of “sky is falling” science that is only designed to gather grant money.
On Earth Day? Well that can only mean one thing. The solution is a global socialist command economy. We are all going to have to "do our part." There will be rationing and bans on common items and vilification of the American way of life. You can't argue with the science. This is much too important and we only have ten years to give the smart people full control of every aspect of human behavior. Is it really too much to ask?
Probably means that global warming is causing the atmosphere to thin out and the result is less friction on incoming asteroids so they are reaching the ground. I cannot wait for this theory to emerge.
Meanwhile, in the past decade the only major ASS-teroid that has hit the US is in the white house.
Global warming causes falling space rocks!
That's at least 80% of potential impact area with almost nobody around to see an asteroid hit.
Bush’s fault.
“the only thing preventing a catastrophe from a ‘city-killer’ sized asteroid is blind luck.”
Well, at least we got that going for us.
I suggest that we build a dome of money over Democrat-dense cities, to be built by obamateur’s cronies and his union buddies. It won’t do a thing to deflect an incoming asteroid but it will divert money into the appropriate hands.
Seriously, for all the alarmist blather, when was the last time in human history that an asteroid wiped out a city on earth?
We need to build a giant shield to cocoon the Earth from the danger of asteroids. Taxes will have to be raised globally and the money deposited into a UN account to build the shield.
>>I’m not so sure. 70% of Earth surface is ocean. Figure perhaps half of what remains as almost uninhabited: Siberia, northern Canada, Mongolia, Antarctica, Amazon, Sahara, Saudi, etc.
That’s at least 80% of potential impact area with almost nobody around to see an asteroid hit.
I’d agree if they were just claiming that we get hit with more space debris than we thought. But, they are talking about large-scale impacts. You don’t have to see those to know they happened. A lot of that ocean is heavily travelled by ship and aircraft. Are they calling a football-sized rock large-scale??
It’s all for the good of the collective, EGD. Now be a good little prole and go eat your sustainable twigs and grass.
I’m more likely to have a “widow maker” hit me while I am working in the woods than an asteroid and global warming hasn’t a thing to do with it.
Thus the reason God doesn’t allow us to know when our final day will be. He wants us to live every day as if it were our last with no cramming on the righteousness test.
This is a real threat as compared to the phony threat of global warming
Don’t know. Article was pretty vague.
Actually, ocean routes are about as well defined as roads on land. Almost everybody takes the shortest route between two points, so the VAST majority of the ocean is seldom-traversed.
If we get hit by 3x to 10x the space debris we thought, then wouldn’t we also have 3x to 10x the large scale impacts?
Heavy wet snow falling.
Tree about 2' thru at base suddenly fell across the trail about 50 feet behind me.
Surprisingly, it DID make a sound!
Setting up the excuse for when a terrorist nuke goes off?
