BOSTON (AP) — With security tight along the 26.2-mile route, tens of thousands of runners set out from the starting line at the Boston Marathon on Monday in a "Boston Strong" show of resilience a year after the deadly bombing. "I showed up, I'm back, and I am going to finish what I didn't finish last year," said Mary Cunningham, 50, of St. Petersburg, Fla., who was stopped a mile short of the finish line by the explosions last year.

Running is the quickest way to knee replacements and twisted ankles. Have fun...while you can. Back to my point. I could care less about people running down a street if they are not even raising money for a charity.

“I could care less about people running down a street if they are not even raising money for a charity.”

Not sure most people who run are seeking your approval Fawn!

“Running is the quickest way to knee replacements and twisted ankles.”

I’m sure you have data to back this up.

Meb Keflezighi wins it. First American since Greg Meyer in 1983.

Meb was born in Eritrea in 1975.

Oh, that is GOOD. My daughter’s friend was 123rd, I think that puts him in the top third of the top 1%, so that is outstanding.

I’d have to ask but I think he and his brother finished a little better than that last year. His brother did not run this year.

You’re welcome to the phrase. I’ve been using it for years, don’t know when I thought of it but I know I first used it in reference to start/hero worship.

I have no opinion about running on whether it’s good or bad for you, but here’s one observation of people who run; in almost any conversation they use the words “me” and “I” more than others. There are many examples, even on this thread. It’s all about “me”.

The weather was perfect, and we finally had an American winner! Thanks, Biggirl, for your graciousness. This one was an important one for many of us here in Massachusetts.

My running is about me. I’m not doing it for anyone else. It’s not a charity event that I do, or to take care of others. I’m also not asking for anyone else’s help or permission.

I would hope that you and everyone else have things that you do for yourself as well.
We are all responsible for taking care of our self on one level.
Not sure why this is would be unusual. Some people fish; some people watch NASCAR, some people garden. We all have our things.

Biking is a great workout. I really should do more biking; I have very nice trails literally out my back door.
I am looking at another marathon in late July; so am trying for that.

Training for the one last year brought my cholesterol down about 40 points and 20 pounds of weight loss.
The good thing is I could eat anything!

Meb was born in Eritrea in 1975.

He's still an American. He was naturalized in 1983. Sorry he's not WASP-y enough for you.
