It’s about time. I got tired a long time ago about seeing things attributed to “an official who spoke off the record because of the classified nature of the material”.

Above board, candid and forthright. The departments under it are servants of the people that elected the administration. The peoples’ rights are far more important than any other consideration

This from the guy who “gave the least untruthful statements” to Congress .... Clapper is a POS.

A form of this is needed, but just ordering people to do it is not going to work.
To start with, the US government is so paranoid that it classifies cargo ships full of documents every day. 99.9999% of which is utterly unimportant nonsense, of no value to anyone, even the classifying authority.
Second, by trying to crack down on anyone who talks to a reporter, all they are going to achieve is reporters pretending to not be reporters. Or talking to someone who talked to the federal.
Reporters also use this sort of policy to blackmail federals into giving them information. Even if they never talked to that reporter before, the reporter will say to them that if they don’t start laying information, they will spread the rumor that they are a leaker, and their career will be over.
And of course, some reporters are spies as well as reporters, so they are particularly crafty at getting information from unwilling sources.
