Heller calls for BLM hearings during appearance with Reid (Sen. Heller calls them 'Patriots')

LAS VEGAS (KSNV MyNews3.com) — Sen. Dean Heller, R-Nev., called for Congressional hearings into the BLM’s stand-off with cattle rancher Cliven Bundy.

Heller requested the hearings during a joint appearance today with Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., on the KSNV-TV News 3 program “What’s Your Point?”

Nevada’s junior senator noted that he wants to determine “who drove” BLM policy into the tense standoff that ended Saturday.

Heller said that he took issue with the BLM “coming in with a paramilitary army. It made a lot of people very uncomfortable.”

“It’s obvious,” Reid noted, “the federal government can’t just walk away from this.”

Speaking Thursday, Reid equated Bundy and his supporters to “domestic terrorists.”

“Those people, who hold themselves out to be patriots, are not,” Reid said at the earlier event. “If there ever were an example of this,” Reid noted, “these are the guys.”

The Reid and Heller appearance was billed as the first joint TV appearance by the state’s two U.S. senators. Hosts Jeff Gillan and Amy Tarkanian questioned the men about the potential extension of long-term unemployment benefits – both men support them despite opposition from House Republicans. The two are also opposed to the legalization of most forms of Internet gambling, arguing that they would hurt traditional Nevada casinos.

“Dean and I can spend three days on the things we disagree on,” Reid said, “but we also agree on a lot of stuff.”

They were clearly split, however, on the issue of Bundy’s push to continue to graze his cattle on BLM land despite court orders going back to the 1990s, forbidding him to do so while requiring him to pay grazing fees owed the federal government.

“What Sen. Reid called ‘domestic terrorists,’ I called ‘patriots,’ ” said Heller, noting that he had previously introduced legislation that would see Nevadans assume a larger percentage of the state’s land. The federal government owns nearly 87 percent of the state.

What is a “state” if the Feds own 87% of the “state?”

That not exactly true. The Feds Claim ownership over approximately 87% of the state. It’s long past time for the Western States to band together and fight this - should have done it a long time ago.

They tried this stuff with Missouri too. Missouri and several other states banded together and claimed their “equal footing rights”.

Yes. Someone IS standing up to Reid. Now to file ethics charges or criminal charges and have him step down until situation is resolved like Tom Delay ;-)

I want to encourage all Freepers to call their Senators & House member and demand hearings on the BLM fiasco. I’m not a fan of Bundy’s legal views, but the BLM & USFS need to be reined in...HARD! And it won’t happen unless the public demands it!

‘Grazing fees’ should be revisited. Grazing fees came out of 1906 Act where Fed. bureaucrats used the act to fleece cattlemen. The government has no overhead costs to feed the grazing cows.

BLM, the custodians, do not plant, fertilize, water, or provide the sunshine to grow desert shrubs that cattle eat. The shrubs naturally have grow even with feeding cattle without any human intervention. It’s purely a financial windfall for bureaucrats who really provide no service. It’s about as close to having fees to breath the air over BLM custodial lands.

It brings tears to these old eyes ... knowing that We The People once thought of our ballot as something almost sacred, as a means to be self governing under laws agreed upon by the governed. Today, the democrip party has so destroyed that concept that whole populations think nothing of disenfranchising Americans by cheating the ballot. May God have mercy upon US all.

Moreover, controlled grazing helps control the more flammable weeds and brush, reducing the risk (and damages due to) wildfires.

Why would Reid want hearings?
Hearings would expose Reid’s corruption.

While they're at it the question should be asked:

Were any of the Private Contractors in this engagement hired for security or enforcement functions?

Why does BLM believe they need a SWAT team(s) and how do you derive that power from your Congressional Charter? Can you not rely on FBI and other existing Law Enforcement for SWAT needs?

How many people in BLM have been trained in the use of AR-15 and like weapons? How many such weapons does BLM have?

How many snipers does BLM have?

Right, Reid does not want to go anywhere near any BLM hearings but Senator Heller would.
