On April 23rd, Kansas Governor Sam Brownback signed a bill "nullifying city and county gun restrictions" to ensure that it is legal to "openly carry firearms" throughout the state.

The law takes effect on July 1.

According to cjonline.com, the law will "sweep away restrictions on open carry." It will also "prevent cities and counties from enacting restrictions on firearm sales or how guns are stored or transported."

Supporters of the law say it will correct "a patchwork of local regulations [that have] infringed on gun-ownership rights."

I confess I don’t understand how Brownback and Sebelius can somehow share Kansas. It makes no sense.

“But Melissa Wangemann, legal counsel for the Kansas Association of Counties, believes the law “shows a lack of trust in local elected officials.”

Melissa, is it a “lack of trust” that Kansas doesn’t allow cities and states to set their own rules regarding First Amendment rights?

You watch, some liberal judge is going to say the law
is unconstitutional.

As a resident of Lawrence, I can say that “lack of trust” is perfectly reasonable.

What, Kansas returning to its senses? About time. Grew up there and in those days many, many pickups had rifles in rifle racks. Amazingly, they were ‘t locked up either. Indeed, when I went into the Army, my Dad threw my .22 rifle into the bed of his pickup in case he ever needed it. When I got out, it was still there, a rusted useless hulk by then. Yes, I was irritated, but the point is no one batted an eye, not even thieves, for two whole years while it rusted away in easy reach in one of the largest towns in Kansas. Those were the good old days. Looks like they’re coming back. Yea!

Yet I bet she thinks universal background checks or whatever other nonsense might be enacted in even farther-away and even more one-size-fits-all Washington DC would be perfectly valid and "common sense" and should be complied with.

Essentially, the Kansas law parallels current Virginia law, making Kansas a "shall issue" state. For those of you in Virginia, you may thank the Virginia Citizens Defense League at your leisure. :-D

The single best law passed in Virginia was the statewide preempion law, prohibiting localities from passing any kind of firearm-related ordinance. Finally, no more invisible lines separating normal activities from felonious behavior.

BTW, the legislation passed unanimously in the Kansas House, and 37-2 in the Senate.

I’m going to speculate here. Could it be that the anger over the feds assaulting the Bundy’s is having an unintended consequence that ever more people are seeing a need to be able to defend themselves....against our own government.

The only good thing Obammy has done is get that BITCH Sebielius out of Kansas.

Ruby Ridge, Waco, and the Bundy / Posse Comitatus violations are all offshoot of this that has been simmering for a long while as liberals and communists try to take over our country from the inside out.

EAGLES UP !!

It’s articles like this that give me some hope for America. Seems I read weekly that a city, county, or state is relaxing its gun regulations. Never thought I would see Chicago go “shall issue”. Of course, then you have New York and Connecticut, and a few others. Surprised that the ultra-liberal state of California still can’t get registration passed.

(P)Not sure if it’s all the massacres of late or Obama or Fedgov para-military buildup or all the above. Just glad that people, especially women, are realizing that self-defense is THE first inherent right.

I don’t think so. I used to live in Kansas, and have been trying to keep up with things there. This shift has been building for a number of years. The former governor vetoed gun-friendly legislation. Brownback is smarter.

But Melissa Wangemann, legal counsel for the Kansas Association of Counties, believes the law "shows a lack of trust in local elected officials." She said it takes away the ability of "pro-2nd Amendment counties" to expand concealed carry on their own.

Wangemann also said this law means her counties "can't enact any regulation," nor can they tell gun owners, "Keep your safety on, keep the gun on your side, don't lay it on your desk."

IOW's Wangemann wants to TELL you what to do. When to do it...and, How to do it!!

Screw you Wangemann!!!

You watch, some liberal judge is going to say the law is unconstitutional.

They tried that last year in Mississippi. Within days, the Mississippi Supreme Court slapped that ruling down and said the new open carry law goes into effect immediately.
