Barack Obama has warned Russia could face "consequences" after accusing the Kremlin of not honouring an international agreement aimed at defusing the Ukraine crisis.

The Geneva accord between Russia, Ukraine, the US and EU called for an end to violence in eastern Ukraine and compelled armed groups to surrender weapons and leave official buildings.

But a week on, the US President said he was ready to "ramp up further sanctions" if Russia continued to disregard the spirit of the agreement.

~U.S. trade with Russia is about 1% of total U.S. trade~

Do you think Russia has any significant trade with US?

U.S. exports to Russia totaled $11.2 billion in 2011, according to the Observatory of Economic Complexity, while Russian exports to the U.S. totaled $26.4 billion. Because those exports represent a larger part of Russia’s overall economy, Moscow would be hurt more than the U.S. in a trade war.

IMHO, stakes are too dismal from both sides to ever call it a trade war.

Playing with fire is putting it mildly.

Russia and China could collude to end the dollar’s reign as the world’s reserve currency...the end of the petrodollar.
Everyone would rush to dump dollars.

Our economy would collapse.

You are entitled to your wishful thinking, trade war is only part of the costs calculation though... Russia will suffer gravely from capital flight.

I know Putin Fanboys demand to have their cake and eat it too... but starting a new Cold War will not go well for Russia, look at the Soviet Union.

Well, as far as political system is walking along with economy, I guess if these sanctions are to take effect, Obama might also take credit for a rivival of communism in Russia.

So? Obama defies the U.S. Law and Constitution all the time. At this point, what difference does it make?

I think the proposed line just goes north through Iraq and into Turkey, not through Eastern Syria. A line that taps off of that one and goes south to Egypt would pass through Syria though but I'm not sure what the purpose of a line south to Egypt is.

Obama: New Russia sanctions are "teed up," but Putin can change course.

Today, April 24, 2014: Obama finally gets serious about Putin!
New sanctions against Russia are "Teed Up".

Wow! When the teleprompter of the golfer-in-chief of America uses golfing metaphors, you KNOW he's really getting serious this time.

Upcoming planned soundbites re sanctions:
