Two former LA County sheriff’s deputies were charged with planting guns at a medical marijuana dispensary, resulting in the arrest of a man who was sentenced to six months in jail, authorities announced Wednesday.

Julio Cesar Martinez, 39, and Anthony Manuel Paez, 32, were charged last week with conspiracy and alteration of evidence by a peace officer while on duty in 2011. Martinez also is charged with perjury and filing a false report.

Each could face more than seven years in state prison if convicted.

IMHO, LA cops are just another street gang, but better trained and armed. Same goes for most big city PDs. Exceptions: Dallas and Columbus, OH.

As any old cop will tell you, drop guns are solely for when a perp has been shot, in a bona fide, or not, shooting; they are not for planting evidence or other events. Too many things can go wrong.

The primary purpose of a drop gun is if the cop loses his primary gun during a brawl, so shoots and kills the perp with the drop gun before the cop’s gun can be used on him.

I’m never clear on the motive in a case like this.

Two cops risked felony convictions and prison sentences for what exactly?

And being a cop in prison most likely doubles or triples your risk of injury or death during your sentence.

And they carry these illegal guns around with them?

They carry them into a Police Station, then conceal them on their persons or in their Police car, before they even know how or when or where they will plant them?

And why would any criminal plead guilty, or, in this case, no contest?

You would take your case to the absolute limit of jury trials and appeals, because if you create reasonable doubt with one juror, you’ll walk, and if you create doubt with a bunch of jurors, you will have the chance to ring the cash register on a civil lawsuit.

The bad cops have to know they will be grilled from A-Z, under oath, by defense attorneys.

They have to know that just one slip up could put them both in jail and end their careers.

You have to know that the partner you work with will ALWAYS be tempted to roll over and testify against you if he should be caught for a different crime.

I just don’t get it.

What do they gain by taking such insane risks?

Because the so-called 'justice system' doesn't work the way you think it does.

Take a day and go to the local courthouse and watch how the sausage is made.

It's much more soviet factory than LA Law.

Oh, but haven’t we been told that police carrying “drop guns” to frame people with is a myth? How can this be?
