Murray County Deputy Greg Morrison put his arm around the FULL TITLE: Officer has face mauled by police K9 when he tried to take selfie with it

AA Georgia deputy sheriff was rushed to the hospital Monday after a police bit his face, ripping open his chin and lip. Murray County Deputy Greg Morrison put his arm around the Malinois after a job well done in an attempt to take a selfie with his cell phone. But the professional pup was in no mood for camaraderie and proved it with a vicious snap at Morrison's chin. 'It’s an act of aggression to them whenever you do that,' Major Greg Fowler told the Dalton Daily Citizen, referring to Morrison's ill advised decision to wrap an arm around the dog.

A local man was charged after his poodle attacked a pit bull and he allegedly threatened two boys with a knife, police said.

Police still don't know where the poodle got a knife.

yep , just goofing around .
she reacted by biting me in the lip , lightly .
I bled....

Not a trained K-9 , so it could have been worse .
The point is to be careful with Malinois , esp when they are young and feisty

They are great dogs;but really high strung especially as pups. Make good police dogs.

Don’t put your face in a dogs face and don’t your head over a dogs head.

"Don’t put your face in a dogs face and don’t your head over a dogs head."

I wasn't aware of that rule back when my sister-in-law owned a German Shepherd for protection. He was trained to kill if necessary, but with family he was a big sweeet darling. Sometimes I would lean down and place my cheek on top of his head. There was never an incident, though. He was a good boy who was very tolerant of my ignorance.

Wait, did he shoot the dog?

No. And he didn't get to go home safely to his family.

Funny, I can take a selfie with my pit without a single chance he would bite me.

Hell, I can take a steak bone out of his mouth and the only thing that gets hurt is his feelings.

He has a much softer mouth than my min pins, Corgie and coon hound yet there are douche bags that can only talk $hit about them never having been near one.

"All dogs humans which are alive and have teeth WILL bite under the right circumstances."

This is ridiculous as you can substitute anything alive from an elephant to a Venus Flytrap with the word "dog" in this sentence.

And don't think they like being hugged. They don't.

Well mine do, so is the rest of your experience and advice this far off base? Why would every dog I have owned in the last 55 years gotten onto my lap to be hugged?

Are you going to next tell people that dogs get angry if you talk to them while they are doing a night carrier landing in a fighter jet?

The good vet was merely pointing out that all dogs are capable of biting. There’s no need to amplify the statement beyond that.

Since the statement is stupid I simply pointed out just how stupid it really is. To narrow it down to just dogs is almost criminal stupidity.

The vast majority of the advice on this thread has been idiotic to the point the entire FR community should be embarrassed. I don’t think many of the posters on this thread have ever seen a dog much less owned one!

TheMom, this is the thread I was telling you about.

Here's Doctor Dangerous about to get mauled by a blind pit bull!

Here is my grandson extending his hand to a pit. If I had read this thread before that fateful night we wouldn't be calling him Leftie.

Here is my pit showing just how much he hates to be hugged. He still jumps in three or four times a night because he hates it.

Finally, here is the last photo taken of me alive because this dog killed me right to death.

That's because you have most likely taught your dogs to tolerate you hugging them and you don't see what they look like while you are doing it.

It is the dogs who are euthed when they bite because people don't know how to read dog language and do stupid things like hug them.Walt Disney did dogs no favors.

They are not primates and don't seek out this kind of behavior with each other.

Some good reading suggestions for you -
The Other End of the Leash
Culture Clash

These people are smiling but the dogs are not.

See that tongue coming out? That is the beginning of a stress sign for dogs.

I understand that you love your dogs and I commend you for the great home you have given them.

We have seven rejects ( feral, bit, etc) and we love them so much. All shelter rescues.

It is important to understand their body language and promote what they are trying to say in order to keep stupid people ( not you) from hugging them and getting bitten.
