Rand Paul calls for Republican shakeup (after Team Romney meeting)
Boston Herald ^ | April 26, 2014 | Hillary Chabot

Posted on 04/26/2014 4:48:16 AM PDT by Diogenesis

Rand Paul calls for Republican shakeup
- ‘Evolve, adapt or die’
(after meeting Team Romney yesterday)

"National Republicans — still smarting from Democratic
drubbings in the last two presidential contests
— face a stark scenario of “evolve, adapt or die”
as they plot their next campaign to take back
the Oval Office in 2016, U.S. Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky
told the Herald yesterday in an exclusive interview.

Paul ... said the Republican Party has to rewrite
its standard platform to woo minorities
into a broad coalition that can win national races.

A Tea Party favorite and a former ophthalmologist,
Paul hasn’t been entirely welcomed by his colleagues,
who have blasted him for what they see
as an isolationist stance on national security
and a hands-off approach to the war on drugs.

Added Paul with a smile, “I think debate is healthy.
I prefer it if they don’t call me names.
I hate to be called names.”

That's it, huh? 'Winning' over principles and sovereignty.

Frankly, his idea of 'winning' is the same as Charlie Sheen's 'winning.'

That whole nebulous expression is just code for 'Amnesty'.

Sounds like Paul wants a mini-Democrat party. You can’t out-promise the Socialists, you silly man.

Good-bye, Rand.

All true.

On the other hand...

Rand Paul is the least insane politician that the Libertarian Party (by virtue of its goals) is capable of producing.

This is SO MUCH like 2012 it’s scary.

In 2012 you had a precession of kooks that popped up, made fools of themselves, and then went away, until only one person was standing - Romney - who then figured he could COAST TO VICTORY on the basis of his first debate with Obama.

It sucked. I LOVED Cain, but it was obvious to me that he not only did he not follow the necessary issues to become presidential material, he didn’t even following current events. Sorry, but you don’t win by doing that.

Then Perry, who figured he could say “Texas Miracle” until he was blue in the face, and then coast into office. I hated him (being here in Texas) because he sabotaged just about every conservative goal (with help from suck-ups in our legislature), including Voter ID, securing the border, etc. Eventually he couldn’t hide it either - national politics was of NO INTEREST to him for his entire life up til then, and one doesn’t learn national politics from scratch in 6 months. Cannot be done - as once you scratch the surface, it was clear that he was clueless.

So now Rand pops up, TOTALLY CONNECTS with “the youth” on drones and privacy, manages to vote against Amnesty in the Senate (but he did waiver, big time), and looked more sane than his father. All that was left was to pull in the Republican base and he had a CLEAR SHOT right into the oval office.

...BUT NO, not good enough for him. He has to TRANSFORM the Republican Party first. Get us off of our pedestal of thinking that sex with animals is NOT ok, or that abortion is something other than a beautiful event, or that a STONED society is a productive one ready to take on China and Russia. No, we have to come around to his SICK libertarian views these issues.

So we’ll end up with Jeb or some other loser - he will get the usual business money, and he will, again, lose “the good fight”. And if we’re lucky, we’ll still have some power in Congress so that Hillary can kick us around like a battered wife.

When the GOP won 5 of 7 election cycles from 1980 through 2004 did we see the Democrats panic with dire warnings that they have to “evolve, adapt or die”?

When the Rats lose an election, they never, ever give up one iota of their leftist principals. The GOP “leaders” on the other hand, trip all over themselves, compromising ALL of their principals, and never get any credit for it by the lap dog media.

If you try to stand for everything, you stand for nothing.

I would LOVE a broad coalition of supporters. . .AND, because conservative principles, by their very nature, apply to ALL humanity. . .a broad-base coalition should emerge in of itself.

Rather than trying to divide people into groups and then attempt to out-pander the Dums, we should, with TRUTH, appeal to all. All humans, no matter how corrupted, still possess a moral conscience and a rational mind. All humans have the potential, when confronted with the light, to be persuaded and change. That should be our single objective. That is the power of Conservatism. . .we should use it!

Once the knuckle-dragging morons in the GOPe help bring in an additional 20 million or so Leftist voters through Amnesty there will no longer be a need for Democrats to cheat in national elections.

Should we be praising pro-Amnesty Republicans for their bold initiative to eliminate voter fraud?

Failing that, it's seriously time to find another country to live in.

Libertarians are primarily Liberals.

They talk about smaller government, but what it comes down to eventually is always social Liberalism first, fiscal Conservatism later, if we can, eventually, maybe next Tuesday, or not.

Like Liberals, a lot of Libertarians do not understand their own belief system and end up supporting things which they think they oppose.

Liberal Example: Democrat do-gooders who oppose racism support affirmative action, segregated schools (to build self-esteem) and lowered expectations for blacks. This increases racism in the effort to fight racism.

Libertarian Example: Easy immigration, easy drugs, doing more to help minorities -- all of these things end up necessitating a larger welfare state. The people who "oppose big government" support the nanny state as the path to shrink government. It's madness.

They have so long ago lost the will and know how of fighting back with principles and ideas they do what comes naturally, appease and capitulate.

They are willing to go right down to their core beliefs, yank them out and rip them to shreds to do what they know how easiest. One wonders if there were really any solid honest core beliefs there to start with.

Another of the increasing number of times Paul is trying to be all things to all people.

The trouble is, he is painting his positions thinner and thinner. Soon, they will be so thin that they have little substance.

The Republican Party needs leadership that stands for something, rather than tries to be all things. Of course, finding what the current Republican Party stands for is quite a task. They appear more Dem-lite. Thus, why should voters go for ‘lite’ when the real thing is the opposition candidate in the presidential election?

Amnesty, Shamnesty. Is that what you got?

Maybe you should actually be made aware of Rand Paul’s position on immigration.

“I do not support amnesty, I support legal immigration and recognize that the country has been enriched by those who seek the freedom to make a life for themselves. However, millions of illegal immigrants are crossing our border without our knowledge and causing a clear threat to our national security. I want to work in the Senate to secure our border immediately. In addition, I support the creation of a border fence and increased border patrol capabilities.

Immigrants should meet the current requirements, which should be enforced and updated. I realize that subsidizing something creates more of it, and do not think the taxpayer should be forced to pay for welfare, medical care and other expenses for illegal immigrants. Once the subsidies for illegal immigration are removed, the problem will likely become far less common.

I support local solutions to illegal immigration as protected by the 10th amendment. I support making English the official language of all documents and contracts.

Millions crossing our border without our knowledge constitutes a clear threat to our nation’s security. Instead of closing military bases at home and renting space in Europe, I am open to the construction of bases to protect our border.”

"I want to work in the Senate " ... Senator, you ARE in the Senate. How much have you done to 'secure the border'?

Any time they bring up 'secure the border', it is a canard. It sounds good, but it means little.

Until they get to the point of saying, "Secure the border, then we will discuss other immigration issues", they are just trying to pull the wool over the anti-amnesty crowds' eyes.

Frankly, you can keep equivocating on your candidate's ideas on illegals - whatever. The fact remains, even with his or any of the others' protestations about AMNESTY as a specific goal and how they're ALWAYS against it, it is ALWAY followed by some equivocating 'however', 'but' and so forth. It's always 'work visas', some sort of 'legalization' or other appeasing action that still leaves us with the eventual drive to legalize them all - to a tee.

Even in your arguments you've redefined illegals who are criminals as plain old 'immigrants' as if they've followed some sort of official process - laughable.

They won't secure the borders before they take whatever vote-getting action they want to impose, they won't throw out ANY of them, NOT ONE.

I could argue with you all day long. I hope you respond and continue. I'd be more than willing to waste your time so that you do not infect some other poor unsuspecting fool with your drivel. I won't ever change my mind about it so have at it.

Paul makes the same old racist progressive mistake.

The Republican party succeeds when it offers equality of opportunity, and equality before the law. It fails when it offers *some* people advantages over *other* people, as *groups*, not individuals. Thus, “big tent” means failure.

The Republican way: “Any of you children might someday grow up to become president.”

The Democrat way: “None of you white children should become president, because you’re white. Black and Hispanic children should become president, because you are black and Hispanic. Especially if you are LGBT.”

Republicans treat individual citizens as individuals. Democrats, and apparently a lot of liberal Republicans, and now Rand Paul, just cannot get over the idea of “group-think”, that it is so much *easier* to deal with homogeneous groups “that are all the same”.

It may be easier for them, but it is still very wrong.
