Seen At 11: Preparing For The Worst With Luxury Bunkers; Cave Looks Like Extravagant 5-Star Resort

Preparing for the worst by setting yourself up with only the best.

As CBS 2′s Maurice DuBois reported Thursday, luxurious kitchens, swimming pools, even gyms are being added to bunkers built just in case of an emergency.

Bomb shelters were a common site in backyards in the Cold War 1950s.

But as one bunker promotional video shows, today’s backyard survival bunker looks more like a five-star resort, equipped with everything from an indoor pool and state of the art movie theater, to a dog run and even an interactive classroom — all underground.

“The overall scope of the project was to create a wow experience for the homeowner. So that they could live here and enjoy the facility and not just survive,” said luxury bunker creator.

Survive whatever may come in comfort, whether it be a natural disaster or a future terror attack.

“It was part of the selling point. You want to make it as comfortable for the psychology,” said Ralph Henrich, who bought a bunker.

Henrich, of New Jersey, paid to reserve space in an underground luxury bunker for himself, his wife, and their three kids.

The cost was $50,000 per adult and $35,000 for children under the age of 16....

"Any reporter who doesn't know the difference between "site" and "sight" should be horsewhipped out of whatever venue they scrawl for. "

That's what you get when you promote people based on criteria other than merit.

"No issues with the rich but most of these clowns have no idea how to survive."

"These clowns" have shown their ability to survive by prospering. Most of "these clowns" will rebound quicker in hard times than those who have never prospered in good times.

Who will survive the Apocalypse, Trump or some 40 hour worker?

I'll put my money on the Donald.

Why did I choose Trump for a comparison?.....because that seems to be the class you envy the most.

Apparently (very trusted) employees, air and water come in/out through unknown tunnels.

I'll bet the tunnels lead to dummy datacenters and they route the utilities from there to not draw suspicion.

Two floors of the bunker are living space with luxury amenities and the leader does pretty much live underground. There are numerous warrants for him. He does come out sometimes based on photos but they can't find from where.

He is selling server space at a HUGE markup and making tons of money to be able to pull these shenanigans. They only accept cash and the number of servers is secret so nobody knows exactly how much is made.

In a true SHTF situation where you are will determine if you survive or not. Someone who is rich may have money but not the survival skills of that 40 hour worker.

All those fancy stocked bunkers don’t mean squat if we get hit with an EMP and everything shuts down. You have to make it to your hidey hole to survive. Cars, helicopters, cell phones, internet all paperweights. I doubt most would be able to navigate a hostile environment on foot.

Unless you live on top of your bunker or its a short hike away most are pretty much screwed regardless of bank account size.

London’s billionaire basement mania: luxury living or living hell?

Let me guess...the billionaire's name is Bruce Wayne.

I did a quick check on the net and found that the cops did get into the first bunker, in Sweden???? (I forget) and arrested several people.

Two served jail terms for running a meth lab there.

The same track led me to stories reporting that no one knows where they operate from.

The did more recently arrest one of the officers of the company in another country, the name of which I have forgot....

But he was operating from a van stuffed with electronics.

The point being that the stories about the bunker probably are the product of someone’s imagination since its location is unknown.

“However, if we are so up the creek that there is no recovery for years on end, there isn’t enough prepping anybody, but the most elite, could do and thrive.”

Your statement isn't true. It takes intelligence and “some” money, but not an exorbitant amount, to prepare to live years without outside utilities/services.

One prepares to live as their grandparents in the late 1800s and early 1900s did. We could substitute solar power charging rechargeable batteries to help replace oil lamps and candles to produce light and run battery fans. It just takes planning and not a large amount of money to do it. Any water can be purified using a Berkey water purifier.

I wouldn't live underground with people I didn't know and their fuel for power will run out when thinking of years unless they are using solar power. That underground shelter depends on someone else to make it work. I depend on myself, not someone else to provide what I need to live.

My paternal grandfather was born not long after the Civil War. His first wife died in childbirth and it took him years to remarry, to my grandmother. Mourning I suppose.

From him, I know that there certainly is a way to live off the land. None of us would exist if that weren't the case. Wells were dug by hand. Cooking was done over a wood stove. You hunted, grew or foraged what you ate. You built your shelter out of materials that came from the land upon which it was built, log cabins with wood shingle roofs in the frontier east or perhaps stacked fieldstone, baked clay adobe in the west, sod shelters in the midwest, brick or quarried stone in more established settled areas. They made the brick onsite. Staples were all that were purchased and other than salt, you could get on without them. Oil for lamps, sugar, etc.

According to Diogenes Ghost the rich will survive. Us peasants are screwed. How many people can actually live in a bunker for a month much less a year. There will be so much strife in that place that they will all be basket cases after the year is up.

If such a thing were to occur, the majority of the wealthy would be blindsided and damaged far worse, imho. And, with little in the way of practical skills to hold on through the upheaval and scarcity.

I did that for a couple of years, winter and summer, when I did the mountain man thing. It can be done. It's not for the fainthearted, and you do have to have skills, not just book-learning.

Indoor plumbing and running water are wonderful things, and the greatest things our civilization has given us. ;)

You can convert autos to run on wood gas. Google wood gas car.

There's enough natural gas wells around here that 'drip gas' would be an option. ;)

I see a section called servants quarters with beds, but in an emergency, where does the “master” and family sleep? The Bowling Alley?

That's a bit hysterical. Millions of people have lived without modern conveniences for hundreds of years. The people who settled this country were strong and without a doubt some of us will prevail - and it's not necessarily just gonna be a bunch of elite wussies either.
