Unknown gunmen land from helicopter, attack checkpoint in Donetsk region ("US-made guns"?)

Self-defence forces have managed to repel an attack on a checkpoint in Soledar city in eastern Ukraine’s Donetsk region after unknown assailants landed in a helicopter and attacked in a blitz operation.

Over a dozen of gunmen descended from the helicopter and launched an attack on a defense squad guarding a checkpoint near Soledar. As the unknown men attacked, the militia, most of them reportedly unarmed, was forced to retreat.

Following the shootout, the attackers have retreated as well, taking one of the defenders hostage, the local self-defense force told RT’s correspondent Paula Slier who is at the scene.

There are conflicting reports of deaths and injuries, with some talking about at least one killed among the attackers, while other reports suggest one of the defenders was killed.

After the military raid ended, some of the self-defence militia moved forward to retake the checkpoint. Those who were guarding the checkpoint, told Slier that the marked attackers in black uniforms were armed with ‘US-made guns’.

If true this is a major escalation.

The "US Weapons" quote is very important. If true, this opens up all kinds of problems. If it isn't true, what is Russia going for?

The ever-reliable Russia Today.

Nazi propaganda for the 21st century.

Got another source reporting this attack in detail that would meet with your approval???? I’ll be glad to review it, if you do.

How about you post from a non-Russian source?

Now THAT would be something we’ve never seen on FR.

As I said, do you have a non-Russian source that you approve of, that is carrying this story? ? Or do you just like to complain?

I agree. Don’t post from Russian propaganda sources. Their goal is to manipulate public opinion for the uninformed and spread lies.

So you have no other sources to the story to point to, and nothing to add, just flaming, correct?

Russia is simply setting up a PRETEXT for their upcoming actions.

Of course I like to complain, I’m Canadian.

But that’s irrelevant to this issue, if the facts are as you say, you should have no trouble finding some non-Russian media outlet to back up what you say.

So go ahead, I have no preference. Just skip the Russian lies.

I don’t see the point of posting Russian propaganda.

Did you enjoy reading Pravda during the Cold War?

It’s a classic snatch and grab done professionally. Didn’t commit an atrocity, went in cleanly and bagged a prisoner. And left. Don’t know if it was a target or just a target of opportunity.

This was an intelligence mission and the size of it is military strength. You don’t just throw 12 men like that together in a pick-up mission of that sort. That means they’ve worked together a longggg time. This was a message that ups the ante for Putin. “Where willing to do some military action here. How far do you want to go?”. The M16 (being generic) is an odd piece. Can be oversight can be by design for deception or messaging and the subtly is gives Putin a face saving route out, well both sides for that matter. No public commitments yet.

I suspect somebodies digging into the structure of the who ever the defenders are representing. The notation that some of them were unarmed means local conscripts, the armed ones could be a tier above that with perhaps 2 or 3 ‘organizers’. Wonder if they snatched an ‘organizer’, wounded or no?

Bwahahahahaha! You think Obama is this smart!?

Actually, I did. It was also part of my training at DLI.

You can’t defeat an enemy whose motivations you don’t understand.

I WANT to know what the Russian position’s are, and I want to know what their leaders are saying, vs. our own.

Unless you would rather take Mr. “If-you-like-your-doctor-you-can-keep-your-doctor”’s word as gospel? In the electronic age, info is now available in almost real time.

Besides, do you see anyone else willing to stand up to the Right-Sector flame trolls on FR?

Unfortunately they have shown to be the most reliable source recently.

The exact opposite is true, unless you're relying on their own reporting of their reliability to tell you how reliable they are.

“You think Obama is this smart!?”

Not really, but someone around him maybe, if the many reports of XE/Blackwater/Greystone guys on the ground in Ukraine is true.

There are many videos on Youtube of uniformed people claimed to be “English Speakers”, from Kiev, to the last attack on the Slovyansk roadblock.

We get it, already.

Anything that anyone, anywhere says that is counter to what MaidanPR puts out is “Filthy Paid Russian Propoganda”.
Give it a rest.

If you actually had anything constructive to add to a conversation, or to counter said “propaganda”, I might take you seriously. Until then, you are just a sick troll that shadows the Right-Sector thugs perfectly.
Tell me, do you still want Avakov murdered for killing Sashko?

“Unfortunately they have shown to be the most reliable source recently.”

For near real-time info on what is happening in Ukraine, the three best places I have found are Al-Jezeera’s Live Blog, The Interpreter’s Live Blog, and RT’s blog. They pretty much mirror Twitter reporting.

Of those three, RT is the only one that breaks down individual stories, which is why it gets posted here.

US Media is 2-3 days behind the curve, if they even bother to report anything, at all. Even the Tweets of their own correspondents never end up as a story.
