Hell Freezes Over: Paul Krugman, Bill Kristol Agree That Cliven Bundy’s A Law-Breaking Jerk
The Daily Caller ^ | April 27, 2014 | Brendan Bordelon

Weekly Standard editor Bill Kristol and New York Times columnist Paul Krugman are undoubtedly on opposite sides of America’s political spectrum. But the conservative commentator and liberal economist came to a rare point of agreement on Sunday: regardless of his comments on race, Nevada rancher Cliven Bundy’s law-breaking stand against the federal government is inexcusable.

Kristol and Krugman appeared on ABC’s “This Week” to discuss Cliven Bundy’s racially insensitive comments published earlier this week. Once seen as a right-wing folk hero for his stand against the Bureau of Land Management’s push to reclaim grazing fees he owed the Feds, Republican politicians dropped Bundy like a hot potato once the remarks surfaced.

But Krugman was disappointed that Bundy’s racist musings distracted from his larger anti-government message. “I think the Cliven Bundy thing actually is awful, because we should be talking about the message, not the man,” he explained. “Which is really a terrible message, which is you have the right to use other people’s property — namely, federal grazing land — for free.”

“Freedom is the right to not pay for the damage you do,” Krugman bemoaned. “It’s really a horrifying thing he was ever made a hero even before these comments came out.”

“I am horrified to agree with Paul Krugman,” Kristol joked....

Kristol and Krugman agree: original tea party patriots were law breaking jerks.

Who is surprised that puppet masters resent the disruption of their puppet show?

Bundy and the people who protected his life are off script.

* RULE 12: Pick the target, freeze it, personalize it, and polarize it.” Cut off the support network and isolate the target from sympathy. Go after people and not institutions; people hurt faster than institutions. (This is cruel, but very effective. Direct, personalized criticism and ridicule works.)

You don’t think our nation is great? Did I waste time serving in the Army then? Was I wrong to help veterans find work for 15 years?

“National Greatness” was the big rallying cry for the neocons and McCainiacs back in the ‘90s. It’s not about liberty. Their idea of greatness is empire and subservience. Literally. Kristol himself says, “You cannot love your country and hate your government.”

They are pretty close to fascists. Hopefully, their power is waning.

Two Tories.

The lines are being drawn. Only 1/3 of the colonists were in favor of the original freedom movement, circa 1775.

My feelings exactly...The Weakly Standard is OK, but they are part of Mainstream Republicanism.

Bundy's racial feelings and his stance on fees is a distraction here.

REAL PROBLEM--BLM overreach.Facts:

Govt. claims Bundy owes 1 mil n grazing fees.

To collect they send 200 militarized troops with many vehicles and guns, including scopes for sniper fire to terrorize American civilians they claim owe the govt. money.

To send troops, BLM spends upward of 10 mil taxpayer dollars.

The real problem is EPA has closed said grazing lands to grazing, hunting, traffic of any kind, to protect a tortoise that is presently overpopulated by 1,000, and which has managed this overpopulation while living with cattle.

Deal of special interest including Harry Reid, his son, and Chinese investors have evidently persuaded EPA to arbitrarily move boundaries to accommodate Reid and son's special interest.

This whole deal stinks worse than the Los Angeles garbage dump.

Bundy's clumsy verbal expressions and lack of fee payment doesn't even register on the scale.

Yes Sir! I agree. I THINK I listened to all of Bundy’s videos in controversy and I heard zero racism! The man was making REAL points about the black family today in poor neighborhoods and those same points are made every day on media all over the country by slick, smooth talking, pro “strategists” who know not to use the word “Negro” in front of a camera.

Bundy’s comments about the Mexican family are correct as well. They ARE hard working and they ARE generally very strong in terms of having and maintaining a strong and cohesive family.

I lost any faith in that smug, arrogant Kristol a long time ago and Krugman is beneath me to comment on.

But the conservative commentator ...

Mr. Kristol is just another "conservative" commentator who has evidently not really studied the Constitution and its history, and is therefore clueless about possible major constitutional problems with the federal property in question. There are many such "conservative" commentators and they do more harm than good, imo, because they haven't done their constitutional homework.

“Randy Weaver was a total dirtball.”

Perhaps he was; I won’t judge him. I followed the story closely at the time since it was only one state over from me.

What I do know is that he was the victim of government entrapment. He was a man who wanted to be left alone and for that the Feds murdered his family. No citizen, dirtball or otherwise, deserves that treatment. A government that uses brute force and murder to get what it wants when the legal avenues are a hindrance is not legitimate.

Mr. Bundy would like to be left alone, too, but that is no longer permitted. I have no doubt that another Ruby Ridge was the plan until word got out.
