...The Obama administration ordered travel bans and asset freezes for seven Russian officials, including two said to be in Mr. Putin’s inner circle, and froze assets for 17 companies. Thirteen Russian companies will also face additional restrictions as the government will cut off the export or re-export of American-made products to them.

Additionally, the State and Commerce Departments announced a new policy to deny export license applications for high-technology items....

Ooh. It'll really be tough for new Russian companies to form overnight and avoid those sanctions....Or for those individuals to do business through another name....

Meanwhile, gas and food prices are soaring on America's Martin streets.....but Obama keeps the fundraising and party schedule.

This administration is a JOKE. AND so is the "journalism industry" covering it.

I’m sure cronies on this side of the globe will manage to dodge the sanctions as well.

So the companies that export to Russia...they'll be hurt...not Russia.

Russia will get stuff from somewhere else.

And the Russian people will not be happy with us.,

And so much for contract law.

I think the next step is to have Joe Biden go to Moscow and personally slap Putin’s hand. That should do it!

Why do I envision simple third-party structures in a third country overcoming these sanctions with simple intermediary functions?

Oh..ouch! Obozo carries a big stick, right? Never mind that those affected could see this do-nothing response coming and Obozo closed accounts with a total balance of $47.33. I wouldn’t be surprised if he called his “Tell Putin I’ll have better negotiating powers after I’m reelected” buddy and told him what he was about to do. Obozo could care less about this country.

These sanctions have no teeth. In order for sanctions to be effective The EU would have to stop importing Russian oil, gas and raw materials and stop sending hard currency in return. Germany will never agree. This would hurt the EU economically and Germany would be besieged by the usual supplicants. Nor would Germany every send troops into the Ukraine to fight or confront Russians. Obama is reduced to posturing and whining. The West can no more stop Russia from incorporating eastern Ukraine than they were able to stop China from seizing Tibet or Turkey from taking a large part of Cyprus. It would seem foreign affairs and realpolitik require more expertise than can be found in graduate student lounges.

Folding like a broken umbrella....

Hardly seems like the effort for Putin to continue the chess game. The Current Occupant has already sent the message that he shall forfeit, but not before he is through talking trash.

Perhaps The Won would rather believe that Putin will be so doubled up with laughter that there might not be any follow-through.

This is the Baltimore Ravens playing against some rural high school JV football team. Putin is SO much better at playing the tough guy than the vastly overmatched Barack Hussein Obama imposter in the White Hut.

On Monday, the US imposed sanctions on seven Russian officials - including travel bans and a freeze on assets - and 17 companies linked to President Vladimir Putin. Shortly after, EU leaders meeting in Brussels added the names of 15 Russians to the European Union's sanctions list.

"The goal here is not to go after Mr. Putin personally," US President Barack Obama had told reporters earlier Monday in the Philippines, where he was wrapping up a tour of Asia. "The goal is to change his calculus with respect to how the current actions ... could have an adverse impact on the Russian economy over the long haul and to encourage him to walk the walk, and not just talk the talk."

We’ll know Obama’s really serious when he threatens to enroll Putin in ObamaCare.
