The Justice Department will collect data about police stops, searches and arrests, aiming to reduce possible effects of racial bias in the justice system, Attorney General Eric Holder said on Monday.
The agency is launching a new National Center for Building Community Trust and Justice, which will focus data-collection on five cities over two years as part of a $4.75 million pilot program.
Holder said in a video message the initiative grew from the case of Trayvon Martin, an unarmed African-American teenager shot and killed by a neighborhood watch volunteer in Orlando in 2012 and from President Barack Obama to improve trust between law enforcement and the minority communities.
Holder has ordered a federal civil rights probe of the racially-charged Martin case, which is ongoing....

If the police data does not record the ‘attitude’ of the person they are dealing with, the resultof the research will be useless.

Based on what we hear of crime statistics, black men as a group commit a disproportionate number of crimes in this country. Their crime rate, as a group, is far higher than the rates for other groups of people.
Thus, it would stand to reason that black men get arrested in disproportionate numbers as well.
So, exactly what would be proved by collecting arrest records? Holder will proclaim, look at this, blacks are 12% of the population but something like 40% of all arrests? That would be a meaningless statistic, if these people are actually committing the crimes, they should be arrested.
But Holder and liberal surrogates will go out there and distort any statistic, to persuade low information types that the difference is due to racism.
The “racial bias” was in arresting a very innocent George Zimmerman
square block A has white middle class people living on it
square block B has black poor people living on it
block A had one arrest last year
block B will only be allowed one arrest this year
block B has crack dealers, prostitution, gang bangers, 11 reported drive bys per month

I live in a white neighborhood, and I don’t want to live around white pimps, hookers, or white burglars in my neighborhood, so I support having them arrested and taken out.
I would assume the law abiding black people would want the same for their neighborhood, so why does our government assume they do not.
What does shooting your attacker have to do with racial profiling?
Holder is an ass and is wasting time and money that the Government does not have!
They are looking to intimate there is racism in the arrest records to gain a political advantage in November. The democrats are really hurting.

You can bet the farm that charges will be filed and a trial date set for Sept-Oct of this year.
The Democrats 2014 Campaign will be nothing but Racism, War on Women, Income Inequality and that all Republicans are just poopy-heads who have no right to hold office or even vote

One might control for other factors like quality of legal representation (public defender versus paid) and for each category of crime.
The data for all that exists already.
No, this is about intimidating local cops to be more lenient toward Holder’s People.

What does this a-hole want? Does that mean if a black drug dealer kills someone and the cops have already met their quota of arrested blacks that he ill be let go?
Perhaps Trayvon would be alive if he had been arrested when he was caught with stolen goods, break-in tools, and drugs.
Instead, the Miami Dade Schools superintendent had instituted a new policy, where the school police had to jump through multiple hoops in order to arrest black suspects.

I don’t know; in my area the minority criminals have to fan out along the frontier of the welfare reservation to commit crime because everything in their neighborhoods is locked up/bolted down. One such raiding party from Newark NJ killed a guy around Christmas time at a mall a few miles to the west; Newark has no such malls (or even supermarkets) where they could attack innocent unsuspecting people so randomly.
