Judge OKs decision to sell widow's home over $6.30 debt

BEAVER, Pa. – A widow was given ample notice before her $280,000 house was sold at a tax auction three years ago over $6.30 in unpaid interest, a Pennsylvania judge has ruled.

The decision last week turned down Eileen Battisti's request to reverse the September 2011 sale of her home outside Aliquippa in western Pennsylvania.

"I paid everything, and didn't know about the $6.30," Battisti said. "For the house to be sold just because of $6.30 is crazy."

The tragedy for this woman is unspeakable. The entity that pressed the sale based on the paltry sum, should be raised. It should no longer exist.

So in the end, home “ownership” is a fantasy.

If this came to my desk I would have whipped out $7 bucks in cash and told some lawyers to GTFO of my office.

My Brother-in-Law was a manager for the IRS. I remember him telling me that if an amount owed was less than $10.00 it would simply be written off as not worth fooling with.

"There is no doubt that (she) had actual receipt of the notification of the tax upset sale on July 7, 2011, and Aug. 16, 2011," the judge wrote. "Moreover, on Aug. 12, 2011, a notice of sale was sent by first class mail and was not returned."

Well! There you have it. Indisputable. First Class mail, no less. Not returned. If you can't trust the U.S. Postal Service, who can you trust? Case closed. Toss the old bat out.

RE: Judge OKs decision to sell widow’s home over $6.30 debt

If I did not read the article, I would have thought the house was in Detroit or Gary, Indiana.

In these places, the government will PAY YOU to own houses.

Notice that they sold the $280,000 house for $116,000 ... find out who bought it for less than 50% of its value and who they are related to or business partners of.

Ma’am,

That wasn’t your house. Somebody else built that house. Somebody else made it happen.

Well, the original amount might have been $6.30, but with interest and penalties, your bill came to exactly $280,000.

Sorry, comrade, but the good news is that you are eligible for section 8 now.
