Big chill: Feds want to scour Net, media for 'hate speech'

If two Democratic lawmakers have their way, Barack Obama’s Justice Department will submit a report for action against any Internet sites, broadcast, cable television or radio shows determined to be advocating or encouraging “violent acts.”

This according to the text of a new bill from Sen. Ed Markey, D-Mass., and Rep. Hakeem Jeffries, D-N.Y.

The Hate Crime Reporting Act of 2014 “would create an updated comprehensive report examining the role of the Internet and other telecommunications in encouraging hate crimes based on gender, race, religion, ethnicity, or sexual orientation and create recommendations to address such crimes,” stated a news release from Markey’s office.

The one-page bill, reviewed by WND, calls for the Justice Department and the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights to “analyze information on the use of telecommunications, including the Internet, broadcast television and radio, cable television, public access television, commercial mobile services, and other electronic media, to advocate and encourage violent acts and the commission of crimes of hate.”

The bill does not define which actions by broadcasters would be considered to have encouraged violence, seemingly leaving that open to interpretation.

While we’re busy defending the Second Amendment, the public servants are trampling the First Amendment. Freedom is under attack in America. How’s that for “hate speech”? #@!$ the politicians and Adolf Hitler too!

More evidence that we are one or two generations away from losing freedom. You know that “hate speech” is going to include anything that suggests that government be cut back or spending reduced.

Conservatism is hate speech, according to Democrats and the GOPe. They will go after it like the IRS has gone after Tea Party groups. They feel threatened.

Some folks seem to think the best path is to “just behave” in the hope the Fedzilla will eat them last. Not me, and I know of many like minded FReepers who have no intention of “going quietly into that dark night”. (Laz, Graewulf, Jrandomfreeper to name a few.). I have no problem being first. My hope is that I give it such a serious case of indigestion it dies from it.

I agree with you with this exception. The “one or two generations” to which you refer are in the past not the future.

Tokubetsu Kōtō Keisatsu, they're Baaaack, and in the USA. Notice all these Reps that advocate the changes are from the NE states or California? Its like our lives are run by the NE and CA Liberals. I'm not against real hate speech, but I worry how they will define it. If we go by the Tokko standards, it means anyone who is disappointed with the country's leadership. On the bright side, maybe they will tone down the left's rabid attacks on Palin, riiiiiight like that's going to happen.

Nonsense. We are losing ALL our freedoms in the next 6 to 12 months.

Leaving it wide open for any libtard to define anything it doesn't like to be hate speech.

They don’t really need to legislate it at all. There are plenty of regulations that they can simply choose to enforce as they interpret them. Heck, all they need is 0bama’s pen and phone for that matter.

A one page bill? It is a floating balloon waiting to be shot down. Then all they need is to go to process number one. There’s plenty already on the books to apply this how they want.
