The Archdiocese of Baltimores head of child protection praised Baltimores Ban the Box bill for including provisions to protect children and vulnerable adults. The City Council passed the controversial bill April 28.
We are very pleased with how the City Council has amended the bill, said Alison DAlessandro, director of the archdioceses Office of Child and Youth Protection.
Its important everyone works together to be advocates for our children, she said.
The bill prohibits employers from checking applicants criminal history prior to extending a conditional job offer, in an effort to curb discrimination against ex-convicts in hiring practices.
The Archdiocese of Baltimore supported the aims of the bill as a matter of social justice, but pushed for some exemptions for employers hiring staff who would have contact with children or vulnerable adults. DAlessandro testified before the council in February. The bill was amended to reflect the archdioceses concern.
As the Catholic Review previously reported, DAlessandro said a prior version of the bill would have not allowed the archdiocese, parishes or schools from asking applicants whether they had been accused of child abuse.

Was the archdiocese of Baltimore the ONLY religious organization there that thinks weeding out known child-molesters is a necessary action?
Federal Law and State Law will trump this nonsense. NO WAY that anyone can get a job as a private security agent or an insurance or real estate agent or a stock broker or work in a bank with a criminal history!

"Accused"?
I "accuse" DAlessandro of bank robbery, fire him immediately.

Probably a relative of Nancy (D’Alessandro) Pelosi. Because she’s originally from Baltimore where her father and brother were both corrupt mayors there years ago.
So now Maryland employers will hire out-of-state.
Or move out-of-state.
From the ex-convict’s point of view, Maryland is now the place to move to.
What could go wrong?
Maria, since you never come back to the many threads you post, you probably won’t see this comment.
It is so tiresome that the only way you ever use FR is to pimp your own junk from the “Catholic Review”. And you don’t even bother to answer those who comment on your pimped threads. Is it that the “Catholic Review” is just paying you for hits?
See my #9.
Some folks aren’t bothered by such behavior.
It bugs the hell out of me.
Not sure what your comment was supposed to mean ... Clearly, they want to preserve their ability to keep perverts out of their churches. That’s a good thing.
