I think they're attempting to do just that...at issue is “time”....as the “thuggery” groups, from all sides, likes a fight and it's not long before they get to whatever the latest protest or takeover is to do their deeds. They make good money fighting so it's better for them there is violence.
Some of these militia’s are men out of work and others who can barter either side for the best “pay” to make money they otherwise wouldn't have...and they do just that. If there's no violence they don't get the pay they seek by 'extending' these protests/takeovers as long as possible.
I'm somehow doubtful that Putin has bussed in those baboushkas to lead the protests.
No, not anyone special, just ones that have many who are on the ground and otherwise....
Dear compatriots, countrymen, I am a representative of the National Homeguard of free Luhansk region. Republic in the future. As of today, we have seized and control buildings of local-government headquarters and regional Prosecutors Office, many building are being seized at the moment. Therefore, I ask you not to panic. Everything is under control. We are preparing for the referendum, which is planned to be held on May 11. Everyone should think and make a decision, the statement reported.
You actually call that a monitored vote in Crimea? Seriously?
It was run by the Russians, counted by the Russians, and reported out as something like 95 to 98% in favor of joining Russia.
Then you talk about all the infractions of the Ukrainians, but forget to mention tens of thousands of Russian troops on the border, and Russian operatives taking over Checkpoints and at least one city.
Would you fault the U. S. if Mexico or Canada were pulling this routine on us? Evidently so...
Here’s the link from his announcement
Kind of sounds like how Ukraine's new government operates.
Do you like how our government is run right now?
What do you think we deserve?
Should Mexico start annexing parts of our southern border.
The Ukraine has the right to run things their way, whether we like it or not.
Look at the massive protests in the 60s & 70s. Protests may or may not represent the vast body of the populace.
As far as that vote is concerned, I remember reading that the European monitors said the vote was without abuse. And I also read that the European monitoring group condemned the Ukraine not airing Russian TV.
Like I wrote earlier, let the Kiev gov prove your point with a popular vote.
Okay, then I suppose you would support such a vote in California an other border states too.
Grania, when is the last time you remember seeing any vote at any time come out 95-98% for something?
That doesn’t cause you any concern at all?
This his how the USSR elections used to turn out. I’m not buy this for a moment. Elections simply don’t turn out that lop-sided.
You could run a vote in West Hollywood to support homosexual rights and not get that plurality.
“I’m somehow doubtful that Putin has bussed in those baboushkas to lead the protests.”
Yeah, this isn’t an SEIU-run protest.
So.. Just to actively listen here. You say protests may or may not represent the vast body of the populace? Pondering that little morsel.
The MP, leader of the Southeast movement, former Party of Regions member Oleh Tsaryov, during the session of Coordination council of the Public movement Southeast, has made a statement that he withdraws his candidacy from the presidential elections.
Two months have passed after the military revolution, resulting in the representatives of the radical neo-fascists forces seizing the power by force. The situation in Ukraine remains very difficult. Economy is on the verge of collapse. Officials cynically persecute dissidents, hundreds of activists are behind the bars, criminal proceeding were begun against them, MP believes.
Tsaryov explained, he registered as a candidate for the presidential post to bring the voice of the Ukraines southeast to other Ukrainians.
But Kyiv officials, violating all democratic norms, deprived me of such possibility. A visit to Kyiv to address the Ukrainian public is a threat to my life, participation in the TV debates at the national TV channel via videoconference was rejected, politician claims.
He says he is withdrawing his candidacy since he does not see any effectiveness in such status.
I made a decision to withdraw my candidacy, because I see that in such conditions the status of the candidate is inefficient. We will search for other information channels and possibility to bring our opinion and position to the citizens of central and west Ukraine, Tsaryov pointed out.
The MP calls other candidates, whose electorate mainly resides in the southern and eastern regions of Ukraine, to do the same.
The elections, held during civil war, should be boycotted, he is assured.

Kiev mobs attacking candidate...so much for fair elections?
So Grania, it’s your take that the Russian troops are only there to stop violence from spilling over into Russia. LOL That’s honestly your take on it, after Russian occupying Crimea?
The other day in a city of close to one million, 1000 protesters made noise, and folks here talked of it as if the populace had now spoken. That’s 0.1% of the populace. Even then there are reports that some of the protesters in Eastern Ukraine have been involve at other protests in the region. It’s not known that these are all home town folks either.
No but a hostile power did take over its most important neighbor and ally which contained its most strategic naval base.
George Soros?
Likely the new President of the “Donetsk Republic” soon, I think.
And that would give the east someone to rally to, which Kiev doesn’t have.
First of all, those explaining the vote concede it would've been in the mid-70% if not for those who boycotted. That's reasonable given the results we see of the last election there and the promises of larger pensions and military salaries as part of Russia.
In at least some of those minority districts the percent of vote to Obama in the 90s is reasonable, given that their populations are very dependent on gov, and Romney wrote them all off.
I suppose you would support such a vote in CA and other border states too.
For southern CA, I'd campaign for it to leave. If those border states are allowed to be over-run by invaders who don't assimilate, yes, I would support their right to join Mexico, but on a county-by-country basis. It's one of the very good reasons to want to remove the invaders from the US.
I was thinking of the same concept applying in Kiel too.
