The attorney for a Maryland boy who was suspended after shaping a pastry into a gun says school administrators are trying to "demonize" him in their bid to fight an appeal to have the punishment erased from his school record.
Joshua Welch, 9, was suspended from Park Elementary School in Baltimore for two days in March 2013 after his second-grade teacher accused him of chewing his breakfast pastry into the shape of a gun.
The case received national media attention and led to legislative efforts in Maryland and other states to prohibit suspending students for having imaginary and toy guns.
School official have denied the family's attempts to have the suspension removed from Joshua's school record, prompting an appeal heard Tuesday by a school system-appointed hearing examiner, The Baltimore Sun reported.

In the 70s I remember, during pheasant season it wasn’t unusual to see shotguns in the back windows of pickups in the high school parking lot.
There is a “feeling” that the government chooses to butt out of your life unless you are causing a REAL (as opposed to perceived) problem.
All States should manage their own education curriculum. All taxes collected for education should go directly to the States and NOT the Federal Government.
Ban Common Core. Mandate Mathematics, Science, Computer skills, Reading and Comprehension, History and English. Hold back students that haven't made sufficient progress in these courses. If you can't read, you don't graduate, period.

You sound like my son. He quietly told off the superintendent during graduation ceremony as she handed him his diploma He wasn’t rude or vulgar but afterwards she quit passing them out and retired to her fold up chair.
The issue was over how a STEAM program was mishandled.
There are some teachers who would like to shake his hand. The woman is not very popular with faculty
