Santorum: Not Sure GOP Cares About Poor People [VIDEO]
The Daily Caller ^ | 04/30/14 | Rachel Stoltzfoos

Former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum said Monday he’s not convinced the GOP cares about poor people as much as Democrats do.

“People ask me, ‘Do Republicans care as much about the poor as Democrats do?’” Santorum said at a New York meeting of conservatives. “I’m not sure we do. I’m not sure we do. And the reason I’m not sure we do, is because I don’t hear us talking about them very often.”

The remarks came during the Q-and-A portion of the event, where Santorum was promoting his new book, “Blue Collar Conservatives.” He was asked whether he supports the earned income tax credit, a wage subsidy for low-income Americans, which some conservatives proposed as an alternative to raising the minimum wage.

Santorum was first elected to preserve and protect the Constitution. He abandoned that oath. He did not take an oath to give our wealth to the poor and the grifters. Now he is out of office and will remain so.

When Santorum endorsed Arlen Specter, he demonstrated that HE didn’t care about conservatism.

Rick Santorum has always had a secret life.

He mocked Reagan supporters in the 1980s, became pro-life to run for office in 1990, supported Specter's presidential campaign to remove life from the GOP platform in 1996.

Santorum stayed devoted to Specter, not only supporting him in 2004, but in 2010, he was also an early Mitt Romney fan, who later came out against the GOP, pro-life platform in August of 2012.

ah yes. the santorum who hacked away at bachmann and other tea party conservatives in the beginning, somehow to emerge as the “conservative” alternative to romney, only to imediately turn tail, quit and clear the way for romney to claim the GOP nomination, uncontested.

right. you’ve got to trust that.

1. He actually thinks democrats care about poor people? Democrat policies enslave poor people! He can't see that?

2. Why do some “Republicans” think they should bend over and kiss poor people's asses? Why aren't freedom, liberty and justice enough to appeal to poor people?

His definition of “caring about poor people” is “how much free stuff can we give them” instead of “how can we help them help themselves.”

Every time Republicans create jobs, they help the poor.

Every time Republicans try to keep the borders secure, they help the poor.

Those Republicans who think “America First” instead of supporting the multinational corporations that dominate the Chamber of Commerce and want cheap foreign labor, help the poor.

When Republicans replace welfare with workfare, it helps the poor.

When Republicans lower taxes, it helps the poor.

When Republicans stop subsidizing inflated industries, so that their prices are forced lower by market forces, it helps the poor.

When Republicans change tax policy to encourage investment in research and development and small business instead of gambling like investments, it helps the poor.

When Republicans oppose higher minimum wages, it means more money for most instead of some more money for some, and helps the poor.

When Republicans encourage the development of domestic energy production, it lowers the price of fuel, which benefits the poor mightily.

When Republicans create a strong military, they subsidize one of the best systems every created for raising the poor out of poverty.

Actually, I’m not sure the GOP cares about Middle-Class red-blooded Americans anymore.

Should have added:

I’m poor and I don’t want ANYONE - especially in government - talking about me or caring for me.

Just leave me alone!

It is not the federal government’s business to engage in charity. Of any kind whatsoever.

If the fedgov were not engaging in areas beyond what is Constitutionally mandated as its duty, the states could deal properly (or improperly) with what is the states’ business.

Please accept my apologies. I had no intention of being un-Christian and am sorry that you felt I was. I would truly like to you know what you think Rick Santroum is right about.

Please eliminate my 'multiple added points'. What do you believe that Rick Santorum is right about?

There's a lot of poor people because Republicans freed them from Democrat slavery and the Democrats won't let them work.

Elect more conservative Republicans and the poor will go away.

“Unfortunately has absolutely correct.

Now everyone can throw their little tantrums at me and I can ignore them.”

It is not the governments job to “care” about people. The governments job is to do what it is told; and nothing more.

It is the people’s job to make sure the governemnt leaves them alone; and only governs as needed.

Hey Rick, SHUT UP!!! STFU!!! No one cares what you have to say any more. This is just fodder for the liberal media and so you are either willingly playing their game to get press or you’re too stupid to realize that you are an MSM useful idiot.
