Washington Governor Imposes Cap-And-Trade Through Executive Order

Washington Democratic Gov. Jay Inslee is not waiting for the state legislature to regulate carbon dioxide emissions, but instead has issued an executive order to implement a cap-and-trade program, eliminate coal power and fund green energy projects.

“This is the right time to act, the right place to act and we are the right people to act,” Inslee said. “We will engage the right people, consider the right options, ask the right questions and come to the right answers — answers that work for Washington.”

Inlsee argues that more action is needed if the state is to meet climate goals passed by the legislature in 2008. Those goals call for the state to lower its carbon dioxide emissions by certain amounts by 2020.

The governor’s office is now imposing a cap-and-trade system to lower carbon dioxide emissions in order to meet state goals. Inslee has created a “Carbon Emissions Reduction Task Force” to design the state’s carbon trading system. The task force held its first meeting on Tuesday and will give its final recommendations to the governor in November.

The executive order also requires state regulators to work with utilities to ban coal as a source of electricity in the state. Inslee has also ordered the creation of a “clean fuel standard” to reduce emissions from cars, trucks and other vehicles.

And, of course, no climate plan would be complete without a program to fund green energy projects across the state. Inslee wants state regulators to work with Washington State University and others to create green energy programs and initiatives aimed at increasing solar power — despite the state’s reputation for cloudy days.

You know, I come here and I read this stuff, and it becomes more apparent by the day, our nation is over.

We're the ones we've been waiting for.

Truth be told America has been gone for quite some time, old friend. We are all just waiting for the inevitable sh**storm to come.

And it is coming.

This is yet another in a long series of daily examples why electing people of principle matters. this communist is why we need people that will fight, not people that stand meekly aside or even help through their reach across the aisle acquiescence.

Eventually people will accept it is a fact. It is why we broke away from England to begin with. And the sooner people accept the reality of it, the sooner guys like this will be impeached and/or put on trial for treason.

If he is talking about electricity generated by coal they import from other states what he did might not stand up to law. ND just won a lawsuit against Minnesota over that;

Since Boeing makes nasty CO2 generating machines they should move out of Washington so as not to sully their Green Dream.

Washington state is powered by the dams on the Columbia River. You cannot get much “greener” than that. I can’t imagine we get a single watt of energy from coal.

You gotta love it when these politicians enact regulations that are irrelevant and then try to claim they’ve accomplished something wonderful.

He should be stopped. I agree.

Good people are losing faith in this nation. Our government seems hell bent on destroying that faith as fast as it can.

This idiot is just one more example.

... but instead has issued an executive order to implement a cap-and-trade program, ...

What does the Washington State Constitution say about executive orders?

Note that if the Washington State Constitution is silent about executive orders like the federal Constitution is, then such orders likely don't have the force of law unless they are supported by the state's legislative branch. And since it appears that the Washington State governor is using executive orders to "bypass" his state's legislative branch, the governor is likely brandishing meaningless executive orders to blow hot air like Obama does.

Attention Washington companies, Texas and Florida will welcome you. And yes, we have Starbucks, so we aren't backwards. :-)

Of course, Buddy Brew is better than overpriced Starbucks.
