Under pressure from farming advocates in rural communities, and following a report by The Daily Caller, the Obama administration withdrew a proposed rule Thursday that would have applied child labor laws to family farms. Critics complained that the regulation would have drastically changed the extent to which children could work on farms owned by family members. The U.S. Department of Labor cited public outcry as the reason for withdrawing the rule. “The decision to withdraw this rule — including provisions to define the ‘parental exemption’ — was made in response to thousands of comments expressing concerns about the effect of...

A Wikipedia article devoted to Critical Race Theory, a controversial legal theory crafted to respond to the alleged role of “white supremacy” in American law, was placed on a temporary editing lockdown over the weekend after bloggers determined that CNN anchor Soledad O’Brien had relied on Wikipedia’s introductory definition of the theory — verbatim — during on an-air debate. A second lock was placed on the article Monday to protect it from politically biased editors who adjusted it following O’Brien’s gaffe. The flurry began after Breitbart.com editor Joel Pollak made a guest appearance on O’Brien’s show to explain a video...

This is the first in a Daily Caller investigative series. The politically aggressive Service Employees International Union (SEIU) has quietly created a national network of at least eight community-organizing groups, some of which function alongside the Occupy Wall Street movement, a Daily Caller investigation shows.Incorporated by the SEIU as local non-profits, the groups are waging concerted local political campaigns to publicly attack conservative political figures, banks, energy companies and other corporations. Each local group has portrayed itself as an independent community organization not tied to any special interest. But they were founded, incorporated, and led by SEIU personnel. The individual activist groups use...

Media Research Center President Brent Bozell appeared on the Hannity show last night and broke his silence amid the Daily Caller investigation into the liberal Media Matter for America, saying they "want to do the dirty work for the Obama Administration." "Well, let me first premise it by saying, as a matter of policy I refuse to talk about this organization. I'm making an exception tonight because I do want to comment on it tonight because that memo- and kudos to Tucker Carlson and the Daily Caller for this- that memo confirms everything you and I have talked about for...

Attorney General Eric Holder scolded The Daily Caller’s reporting on the Fast and Furious gun-running scandal shortly after government officials and reporters heard him admonish Americans for funding gun-runners. Holder appeared Tuesday at a White House event to showcase a new media campaign that is intended to stigmatize the selling and buying of knock-off videos and counterfeit fashion products. Holder recorded one critical radio ad, which is titled “You can help.” The clip was played to the audience in the White House auditorium. “This is Attorney General Eric Holder. We are working hard to protect our communities by reducing gang...

Check this picture out that The Daily Caller is spreading around on the internet. Tucker must be really proud tonight of his employee who doesn’t get what was wrong with his vile and disgusting posting and so is now, but posting this picture, suggesting my interview with Tyson was like his posting – trash. My interview was not trash. I actually know the difference. I interviewed Mike Tyson about his life and boxing. Frankly, in many years on the air, I have interviewed all sorts of people including murderers – what I have not done is used them as a...

I really don’t understand my friend Tucker Carlson. He owns the website The Daily Caller and it currently has on its front page the most vile story — referring to a sex act with Governor Sarah Palin as a “womb shifter.” It is even the headline. Do you know what that means? Figure it out It is really vile. It is not just smut…this is violence against women. The “womb shifter” reference reported in the story is only the tip of the ice berg in terms of the vile nature of the posting. I am sparing you the details. To...

Well that didn’t take long. Yesterday, in a post discussing a New York Times op-ed that called for heavy taxation on “unhealthy” foods, I asked, “How long before some starry-eyed but angry-faced Democrat proposes legislation to force ‘healthy food’ advertising?” Now The Daily Caller reports that food producers could face government regulations requiring “healthy” composition profiles for foods marketed to children two to seventeen years old.If enacted, new regulatory criteria will reclassify many foods which the FDA presently considers healthy as off limits for advertising to children. In the present formulations, eighty-eight of the top 100 most-consumed foods will be...

With questions growing surrounding a Daily Caller report about her suffering incapacitating migraines, Michele Bachmann just put out this statement to try to tamp down the issue, in which she said she takes prescription medicine to control the pain and it would "not affect my ability to serve as Commander in Chief": "Like nearly 30 million other Americans, I experience migraines that are easily controlled with medication. I am a wife, a mother, a lawyer who worked her way through law school, a former state senator who achieved the repeal of a harmful piece of education policy in Minnesota, and...

Former Godfather’s Pizza CEO Herman Cain ripped former one-term Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney after finding out Romney’s recently-released schedule didn’t have The Daily Caller/Americans for Tax Reform (ATR)/YouTube debate on it. Cain says he wants the American people to hear from all the Republican presidential candidates, not just some. “Governor Romney, saying you’re a businessman simply isn’t enough,” Cain said in a statement. “I hope you will participate in this debate to showcase what experiences and vision we each have, and which of us would be able to best help stabilize and grow our economy.” Cain also said he thinks...

Bachmann may also be plagued by her involvement in a controversial pardon. In 2007, Bachmann wrote a letter requesting a presidential pardon for a convicted drug-smuggler and money-launderer named Frank Vennes. Vennes was convicted of money laundering in 1988 and pleaded no contest to a cocaine and weapons charge. Making matters worse, he and his wife donated a total of $27,600 to Bachmann’s 2006 and 2008 election.

Bachmann vs. Palin feud hits Twitter By Matt Lewis A few weeks ago, I pointed out that a prominent Sarah Palin blogger had turned on Michele Bachmann. On Fox News Sunday this week, Palin pointed out that she, unlike Bachmann, had executive experience (though added that Bachmann had strengths, too). The feud was taken to a new level, however, when Bachmann’s new “celebrity” campaign manager, Ed Rollins referred to Palin as “not serious.” This was too much for Palin supporter and talk radio host, Tammy Bruce who took to her Twitter feed. Bruce, who also appears in the new film...

When I disparaged you before, I didn’t take into account what you mean to the people of Alaska, where despite your approval rating being around 36 percent, many would follow you to Scottsdale, Arizona, where you might be moving away from them. Nor did I consider what you mean to this country. So that it makes sense that you would tour it by riding across it in a bus. Probably in the front of the bus. Just like Rosa Parks. Because you’re kind of like a white Rosa Parks. Except you’ve taken it so far beyond what Ms. Parks ever...

Sarah Palin said she was "through whining about a liberal press" last week, but evidently she's not done whining about the conservative press. The Daily Caller's Chris Moody contacted Palin for a response to reports that her reality show, Sarah Palin's Alaska, got $1.2 million in state tax credits. Palin demanded that Moody print her entire 650-word response to the news. And he did--but only on the second page of the article. So Palin took to Facebook to rant about "having to set the record straight on my Facebook page yet again is further proof that the media can't be...

Last fall, leftist ideological groups of socialists and communists teamed up with American labor unions to march together for “One Nation.” Now, as labor leaders struggle to maintain a stranglehold on collective bargaining privileges in Wisconsin, the same groups are once again marching together under a banner claiming unions are the heart of the American dream. As we’ve reported, former White House green jobs czar Van Jones this week issued a rallying call for the progressive movement to “renew itself and become again a national force with which to be reckoned.” On Saturday, progressive groups and labor unions are reportedly planning...

So in summary, here are some historical lessons to remember. One: Always, always, remember that the soft-on-drugs crowd is overrepresented in the media. Two: Bringing out crying pro-pothead mothers is a sign of desperation not demographics. Three: Remember that the best argument against drugs is the pothead (who doesn’t make it to the polls because he slept in). Four: More people have access to the internet and can see that Holland’s “marvelous” soft-on-drugs revolution was an Orwellian lie. Five: Potheads are lethargic activists.

It’s the “vast right-wing conspiracy” all over again. The phase popularized by Hillary Clinton as she ignorantly defended her husband against the Lewinsky allegations has come to mean many things in politics today – including liberal bias in the media. And like the Lewinsky scandal, the “vast right-wing conspiracy” has once again been proven to be true exposing liberals for who they really are. To the aware America, the claim that the media has a liberal bias and is in bed with Democrats has been blatantly obvious. This understanding helped fuel the growth of fair and balanced news reporting found...

We began our series on Journolist earlier this week with the expectation that our stories would be met with a fury of criticism from the Left. A hurt dog barks, after all. The response hasn’t been all that furious, actually, probably because there isn’t much for the exposed members of Journolist to say. We caught them. They’re ashamed. The wise ones are waiting for the tempest to pass. There have, however, been two lines of argument that we probably ought to respond to, if only because they may harden into received wisdom if we don’t. The first is that our...

Journolism School Bethany Stotts, July 22, 2010 The Daily Caller has been releasing conversations from Journolist, which the Washington Post’s Ezra Klein described as, in theory, “An insulated space where the lure of a smart, ongoing conversation would encourage journalists, policy experts and assorted other observers to share their insights with one another.” It also became a place where professors shared their political feelings. “The eventual irony of the list was that it came to be viewed as a secretive conspiracy, when in fact it was always a fractious and freewheeling conversation meant to open the closed relationship between a...

In the hours after Sen. John McCain announced his choice of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin to be his running mate in the last presidential race, members of an online forum called Journolist struggled to make sense of the pick. Many of them were liberal reporters, and in some cases their comments reflected a journalist’s instinct to figure out the meaning of a story. But in many other exchanges, the Journolisters clearly had another, more partisan goal in mind: to formulate the most effective talking points in order to defeat Palin and McCain and help elect Barack Obama president. The tone...

After someone torpedoed Dave Weigel’s Washington Post gig by breaking the code of silence on the Journolist listserv, the race has been on to see who would sell the entire contents of the e-mail messages between the liberal members of the group — and who would get to buy them. We may never know who sold it, but Tucker Carlson and the Daily Caller wound up with the data, and they found a big story to lead off their exposés. In the first of a series on Journolist, Daily Caller reporter Jonathan Strong lays out a strategy plotted by Journolist...

You may (or may not) have noticed that there's been a bit of a feud running between MSNBC's Keith Olbermann and the Daily Caller, the website run by (former MSNBC's) Tucker Carlson. The Caller — via its Twitter account, especially — has poked fun at Olbermann with such headlines as "Keith Olbermann talks too much about himself: We watch, because we’re paid to." Olbermann hasn't taken the taunts sitting down, responding via Twitter with, "@TheDailyCaller unfortunately I don't read you because I don't have to." Olbermann has said Carlson has a "bow tie contained brain" and named Carlson among his...

The Daily Caller Struck Down: Feds Refuse to Explain How Agent Injured Daily Caller Writer By Tucker Carlson and Jon Ward - The Daily Caller 02/04/10 at 5:49 pm The State Department has refused to answer basic questions about an accident that took place in Washington on Wednesday night, in which a U.S. Diplomatic Security Service vehicle struck Daily Caller employee Sean Medlock as he was crossing the street. An agent in the vehicle, Mike McGuinn, did not identify himself to Medlock at the scene, or apologize for running him down. Indeed, Washington, D.C., police drove to a local emergency...

Pundit Tucker Carlson publicly announced Tuesday that a right-leaning news site resembling the Huffington Post he's been planning will go live within weeks. Carlson will launch TheDailyCaller.com, which he said would focus on reporting on the Obama administration and "adding facts to the conversation." "We are a general-interest newspaper-format style site," Carlson told conservative bloggers at the Heritage Foundation on Tuesday. "There just aren't enough people covering this administration and telling the people what's going on." Carlson, a former conservative and libertarian pundit (most notably on CNN), touted his site as a home for basic reporting. "Tell the truth, and...
