Years ago I saw a comedian joke about how artists were not personally recognizable, for the most part. He said, “If I asked you what Henry Moore looked like, you wouldn’t have a clue. But If I brought a man on stage, and the man had an enormous hole through his midsection, you’d turn to your chum and say, ‘Look! That must be Henry Moore!’”

some of those are really funny! my favorites--Van Gogh and Renoir were not mentioned... when i see horses as well as ballerinas, i recognize Degas...
during the elementary years of our homeschool lives (i call it "the Garden" period) i used the Dover Publications postcards to teach my boys art appreciation...

I don’t think the culturally ignorant would enjoy this.

In other words, how to bluff expert knowledge of paintings by the masters.

I can recognize a Remington, Russell, Gerald Curtis Delano and Gil Elvgrin painting a half a mile a way! I see Remington's work in some museums but he isn't as celebrated as the modernists and post-modernists who deliberately created "anti-art".
Elvgrin and other "American illustrators" are not accepted into the canon of "good art".
