Saudi Arabia declares Muslim Brotherhood 'terrorist group'

King Abdullah has decreed jail terms of up to 20 years for anyone belonging to "terrorist groups"

Saudi Arabia has formally designated the Muslim Brotherhood a terrorist organisation.

An interior ministry statement also classified two jihadist groups fighting with the Syrian rebels - the Nusra Front and the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant - as terrorist groups.

The statement gave Saudis fighting in Syria 15 days to return.

A royal decree issued last month said any citizen found guilty of fighting in conflicts abroad faced a jail sentence.

Sebastian Usher BBC Arab affairs editor This is the strongest warning so far to Saudis fighting with extremist groups in Syria.

The Saudis clearly now fear similar blowback from having encouraged jihadist rebels there as they faced a decade ago when militants returning home attacked domestic targets.

The statement also bans an exhaustive list of activities - including meetings, funding and online communication - that could be seen as supporting such groups.

But it goes further, encompassing any activism seen as seditious.

The message goes wider too - coming as it does in the midst of a diplomatic offensive against Qatar. Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Bahrain have all withdrawn their ambassadors from Doha in an unprecedentedly public dispute over Qatar's perceived support for the Muslim Brotherhood.

Hundreds of Saudis are believed to be fighting in Syria, and correspondents say Riyadh fears they could pose a security risk when they return home.

Although the kingdom has supported the Sunni-led rebels fighting to overthrow Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, it has long feared a backlash from radical jihadist groups.

Last month, King Abdullah decreed jail terms of up to 20 years for anyone belonging to "terrorist groups" or fighting abroad.

The interior ministry also said the Saudi branch of the Shia militant movement Hezbollah was now banned.

The new law also promised tough sanctions for anyone backing the incriminated organisations.

However, rights group Amnesty International has criticised the legislation, saying it could be used to suppress peaceful political dissent.

Earlier this week, Saudi Arabia joined the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain in withdrawing its ambassadors from Qatar, which it sees as an important supporter of the Brotherhood.

The Muslim Brotherhood is already banned in Saudi Arabia, which has long viewed its ideology of populist Islam as a threat.

Analysts say the Brotherhood's conservative Sunni doctrines are seen as a challenge to the Saudi principle of dynastic rule.

In Egypt, the Brotherhood has been driven underground since the army deposed President Mohammed Morsi, a longtime member of the group.

The military-backed government in Cairo designated the Brotherhood a terrorist group in December.

Saudi Arabia has formally designated the Muslim Brotherhood a terrorist organisation.

The Obama administration immediately lodged a formal protest.

The MB/al Qaeda now directs the US DOD,
to target Americans, America’s allies, and to
further weaponize al Qaeda.

America is lost, and governed by the very forces
that attacked on 911.

Obama has repeatedly shown his affection and affinity for the Muslim Brotherhood. Both Egypt and SA have designated them as a Terrorist Organization.

Our President is collaborating with Terrorists.

IMPEACH!

The Sunni Saudis are in a bind, as they want to topple the Shiites in Syria, but don't want to become targets when the chickens (fundamental Sunni Muslims) come home to roost.

(Assad is an Alawite which is a Shiite Sect.)-Tom

"The new law also promised tough sanctions for anyone backing the incriminated organisations."

America should follow suit; start with CAIR and freeze any aid to organizations suspected of Muslim Brotherhood affiliations. Elect NO Muslims from city, to state, or Washington,D.C. Freedom and Islam are NOT compatible.

Unfortunately, Saudi Arabia reportedly remains the world’s largest sponsor and funder of islamoNazi terrorists training and indoctrination centers ( including many disguised as mosques but check who pays and appoints the “ clergy” there!). Some power- struggle type disagreement or political dispute between terroristA and terroristB doesn’t render either terrorist into a nice peaceable Little Red Riding Hood.

Is this because they disagree with the ideas behind the Muslim Brotherhood OR because the home grown alqaeda types are more supportive of the Sauds?

If they disagree with their ‘philosophy’ I'd like to know what part...

From what I understand the Saudi family tolerated the Muslim Brotherhood, because they did some of their dirty work, they looked good by comparison, they kept the region in line (in fear). Etc.

Now the Muslim Brotherhood has gotten too strong, stronger than they ever imagined, and the caliphates are threatened.

The Muslim Brotherhood went from a small social movement, to taking over Egypt in what the world calls a “Democratic Election”. The Muslim Brotherhood has ties all over Latin America, Africa, they’ve openly joined forces with Iran, they are secretly rakng in $Billions of dollars in the heroin trade, they seem to have cover in the world’s leftist propaganda machine, and they pull the strings of the POTUS and numerous others in this administration.

At the end of the day, they must have a ton of money. That money is coming from heroin. We are becoming a narco nation, and my guess is that Soros was the one who enabled them to morph from simple criminal activists to a sophisticated covert terrorist organization with our nation under its’ thumb.

With the exception of Chile and Costa Rica, Latin American countries have also turned into narco nations. The African continent in heading in the same direction.

In Obama’s America opium related overdoses have surpassed car accidents as causes for accidental deaths. City after city has claimed to have epidemic heroin addiction rates and the national media is SILENT.

Scary world we live in, maybe it’s better that nobody knows it?

I suspect you're also right about the Sauds... and yeah, these are scary times. Any idea why Costa Rica was spared? I suspect it's the weird job incentives they have there... but maybe not...
