Trey Gowdy position regarding H.R.2377
Email | May 1, 2014 | Trey Gowdy

Posted on 05/01/2014 11:43:01 AM PDT by Resettozero

Thank you for contacting our office regarding H.R. 2377, the Encourage New Legalized Immigrants to Start Training (ENLIST) Act. I appreciate hearing from you and value your thoughts.

Our current immigration system is broken and inspires confidence in no one. We must have border security that is real and verifiable, an internal security system that addresses the large problem of visa overstays, and a mandatory E-Verify system to ensure employers hire American workers or legal immigrants.

Our country deserves an immigration system that is accountable and not subject to the vagaries of whether a President chooses to enforce the law or not. The House is committed to pursuing a step-by-step approach to reform in order to thoroughly examine each facet in detail and ensure the debate is transparent and accountable to the American public.

Our country has a long history of extending citizenship to immigrants who serve in the military and risk their lives for the country. To this end, I am a cosponsor of H.R. 2377. This bill allows immigrants who were brought to the U.S. before the age of 15 and prior to 2011 and to enlist in the Armed Forces. This bill allows individuals who meet the high standards of the military to enlist, fulfill a 5-year commitment, and receive no less than an honorable service designation to be conditionally lawfully admitted to the US for permanent residence.

This bill does not confer citizenship. Rather it acknowledges the mutual desire that those who were brought to this country before the age of legal accountability and desire to serve this country in uniform should have an opportunity to do so.

Thank you again for contacting our office. We hope you will let us know if we can ever be of assistance to you.

Sincerely,

Trey Gowdy Member of Congress

He thinks with his haircut, his background prosecuting and his big talk that he is some sort of badass, fringe, silver fox Conservative.

He is, sorta, but not the way you mean. Where did you hear that he isn't a conservative? His letter posted here indicates he's not for amnesty the way many FR posters have been alleging. Please, what is your beef with Gowdy, then.

Could not follow the rest of your post. Must be allergies.

Please modify your information sources regarding Trey Gowdy. It may affect other aspects of your opinions. You'll be glad you did.

Why don't you provide "information sources" regarding Gowdy that will prove me and others in this thread incorrect that he is basically an amnesty pusher trying to take the gentler route of legalization without citizenship. Anyone foolish enough to help pass such legislation would give every demogogueing Dem in the nation an issue to howl about constantly until some court or the Congress redressed that horrible injustice and gave them citizenship.

I would like to learn that Gowdy opposes all amnesty schemes, no matter how they are crafted or disguised. And constitutional conservatives do not support amnesty schemes that reward illegal behavior with the grand, jackpot prize of legal residencey and US citizenship. That's the Dems and the GOPe.

My inquiry to him was "What is your current position regarding amnesty. People are asking me."

It's clear nothing he said in response to me will satisfy you. You and I will disagree on this point.

I believe the attacks on FR against Gowdy in particular are not motivated by sincerity, since many are always DEMOCRAT TALKING POINTS ABOUT GOWDY.

You really do try to turn things upside down and inside out. There are no Dems criticizing Gowdy because he favors amnesty in disguise schemes and more workers into the US.

That would be conservatives who criticize him for his mealy mouthing about amnesty for illegal aliens.

Gowdy is rewarding some illegal aliens who entered all the way up to 2011. How they will prove what year they entered I don’t know.

The future citizen Dreamer can sponsor the parent and sibling illegals.

Gowdy is saying that unless we become citizens tomorrow it is not a pathway to citizenship.

He is also playing into the game to find the most sympathetic illegals and start the amnesty ball rolling.

Gowdy says asparagus is rotting because his buddy Denham told him so.

Gowdy said he wanted to hear opponents and proponents. So his Dreamer hearing gets stacked with supporters. Steve King gets under his skin and complains to the media.

Gowdy said he wouldn’t run for Senate. Gowdy said he didn’t want to commit to 6 years.

So how is bashing Gowdy’s amnesty games, going to hurt him? He either wants to stay in his safe district or get appointed to a court somewhere.

Gowdy also has more respect for Rubio and Gutierrez than Steve King and maybe even Lamar Smith.

Eric Cantor, John Boehner and Trey Gowdy are our friends because they want to investigate Benghazi.

Let’s not worry about 12 million undocumented Democrats.

Talking about the deaths of Americans.

Steve King: Immigration Reform will lead to more Dead Americans.

You suppose you have a keen insight into Gowdy's thinking. His future plans will be announced when he is ready. Until then, you are insinuating he will do something nefarious, sneaky, untruthful, or make under-the-table lying deals (going against his word as stated in this email) to be "appointed to a court somewhere" or stay in this district where he is well-respected except BY DEMOCRATS!

I hope he gets seated on the United States Supreme Court one day. He's a far better conservative than a good many already there.

They used the same concept to get obamacare passed. It worked then, they figure it will work now.

Gowdy told Laura Ingraham he wants to go back to prosecuting at some point. He doesn’t want to stay in DC for too long.

He’s respected because 99% of the stuff he talks about is not immigration. But when he opens his mouth on immigration he gets in trouble. His face is on all the big talking points.

Why does he pal around with Mulvaney and Chaffetz?

Why was he picked to head the immigration panel instead of others?

Why your vendetta on FR against him using suspect reasoning? He said he is not for blanket amnesty and...well...you read the letter above.

Didn't you?

Let's agree we just disagree.

WRONG! All that SFB Boehner needed to do was NOT bring a House Bill to the floor on Amnesty for Illegal Alien Invaders from Mexico, and the already passed Senate Bill would a worthy death.

Now Traitor Gowdy caves in to Boehner and proudly states: “ - - - I am a cosponsor of H.R. 2377. - - - “

BTW, y’all may have voted for Traitor Trey, but I also pay for part of his sorry salary.

Your stringing together three non sequiturs in a post is convincing readers of nothing other than your anger and apparent hatred toward Gowdy.

Are there any others in Congress more deserving of your vitriol on FR? Or do you hate all in Congress equally? If so, it's understandable, but not a healthy idea.

“Why do they keep saying we “need a path to citizenship” WHEN WE ALREADY HAVE ONE!!!”

A very obvious but neglected point. Perfectly stated and can easily fit on a sign.

” - - - Are there any others in Congress more deserving of your vitriol on FR? - - - “

Well, that is one way of putting it.

I have always considered my “vitriol” as being more of being “gentle persuasion” as I do also have emotional opinions on the Obama Enablers in the Cave-In, Doormat, Republican Party.

Your high opinion of yourself as a superior judge in this matter is misplaced. If what you allege about Gowdy's being a traitor proves true, I'll look you up and apologize.

When it proves untrue in the future, I wonder if you would do the same. In the meantime, thanks for the chat.

No need to apologize, as we are a polarized Nation, so apologies are a thing of the past.

Renee Ellmers, Michael Grimm, John McCain, Lindsey Graham and Vance McAllister are not trying to bring forward an immigration bill in the house.

and a mandatory E-Verify system to ensure employers hire American workers or legal immigrants.

It would be much easier to just Change a small portion of the Tax Code and let the IRS enforce it.:

All Tax Returns claiming a payroll deduction with a no Match Social Security number shall be disallowed in their entirety.
