Many states have banned talking on your cellphone while driving, but Florida is not one of them. So 60-year-old vigilante Jason R. Humphreys took matters into his own hands.
As The Tampa Tribune reports, Humphreys brought a cellphone jammer along on his commute every day for two years. You know, to ensure that his fellow commuters remained focused on the road. Until two local sheriffs deputies caught him in the act and slapped him with $48,000 worth of fines, which he must pay or otherwise respond to within a month.

Indeed. DHS does not like people messing with their Police drones.
Now, that is how I would do it, not saying I have, but, but.......it does work.
I have to think his range was pretty limited if the antenae was inside the vehicle .
Where would one get a cellphone jammer? Ah, you know, just out of curiosity....
Still, Humphreys kept on jamming for another year until two county sheriff deputies pulled him over. They were able to confirm his use of the cellphone jammer before they even searched his vehicle and found it behind a seat cover. As they approached his SUV, their two-way radios were disconnected from their dispatcher.

Humphreys is up Obama Creek here. He better lawyer up and hope he can get those fines reduced.
I’m not even sure if it would improve people’s driving. The typical cell-phone user who texts and talks while driving would probably just shake the phone, open the back, check the battery, put a new one in—all while continuing to drive.
Kickin’ out the jams.
So, did the BLM do similar with cell towers around the Bundy Ranch?
In the meantime when a person is in an emergency trying to get help .....
I was in Florida for business recently. It seemed every other driver had their cell-phone to their ear.
Cops and Government here in NY have made a big deal about it, and its not seen as often as it once was.
Is it not a ticket-able offense in Florida?
They are discreetly in use at upscale restaurants and theaters and such. Who wants to listen to jack donkeys on their cell phones when you’re spending hundreds of dollars?
The guy with one in his car isn’t making it safer. It’s making an even bigger distraction as idiots try to figure out why their smart phones quit.
They sell these at Wal Marts in Florida?
I’d love to have one of those.
But he got caught when Metro PCS complained on 29 April 2013 that one of their towers was getting jammed every morning and evening. The FCC staked out the highway and identified "strong wideband emissions within the cellular and PCS bands" coming from a certain blue Toyota Highlander. On 9 May, Hillsborough Sheriff deputies busted him.
When the jammer interferes with a call, the phone addict will then devote even more attention to the phone to try to reestablish the call, and give even less attention to the road.
So, the jammer could very well be the cause of accidents, rather than a way of preventing them.
If Curtis Reeves had had one of those, maybe he'd only be facing an FCC fine instead of Murder II.
Perhaps, but he's nothing but a no-good busybody to begin with. IMHO.
