It is becoming increasingly more obvious that Obamacare is a failure. The Oregon Obamacare exchange was forced to shut down after not signing up a single person, and a majority of young people want nothing to do with the law.
So it seem to be a safe assumption that Republicans would continue their push for a repeal of the law, something they have voted on numerous times before. It would fit well with the anti-Obamacare message they are running on for the 2014 midterms.
But inexplicably, many Republicans are now backing away from repeal, claiming that the law is here to stay, and it is better to tinker around the edges trying to fix it than to just do away with the whole monstrosity altogether.
But conservative author David Limbaugh has some stern words for those weak-kneed Republicans, in a column posted to Townhall.com, calling them out for their fearfulness and encouraging them to “rediscover your backbone”.
Please explain this: Obama is incredibly unpopular, and Obamacare is one of the main reasons, yet some Republicans are now saying it’s here to stay. That is flat-out unacceptable. GOP — heal thyself.
We’ve learned that it’s not enough for Obama to be the worst president in the past billion years. Republicans have to give the voters a reason to vote for them and not just against his party.
Don’t assume I’m being inconsistent because I have previously rejected the claim that Republicans don’t have any plans to offer on health care, the economy and the rest. They definitely do, and they have offered numerous concrete ideas to reform health care, restructure entitlements, reverse our reckless course on taxing and spending, deregulate our administrative leviathan, and rebuild our national defenses.
What I’m saying — and I’ve said this before — is that they have to start acting as if they passionately believe in their ideas and they believe they must be adopted soon. They must make clear their urgency about our dire national situation and quit downplaying it because they’re afraid of looking extreme or afraid of receiving an electoral spanking from a growing percentage of voters who are dependent on government.
Limbaugh tells the GOP to have a little faith in the general public, and to not write off people just because they may have been compelled to get on government assistance because of the horrid economy. Republicans need to stand strong on their ideals and stop portraying themselves as “liberal lite”.
It has taken a while, but finally the public is waking up to Obama’s destructive effect on this country. Even with a conspiratorially dishonest liberal media downplaying every negative bit of news concerning Obama and his policies, the public is still catching on. Many of Obama’s formerly die-hard supporters are obviously grasping that he can no longer credibly blame his predecessor for his litany of policy disasters.
The latest Allstate/National Journal Heartland Monitor poll shows Obama’s approval at 41 percent, “near the lowest level ever recorded in the 20 Heartland Monitor Polls since April 2009.” Also: “Only one in four adults say his actions are increasing economic opportunity for people like them, also among his worst showings in the polls.” Obama’s numbers are particularly bad “in the seven red-leaning states” where Democrats are trying to defend their Senate seats in November.
As I’ve recently written, Obama is pushing his income inequality meme as the latest iteration of his divide-and-conquer electoral strategy, but this poll suggests it’s falling flat. Voters are wising to the disconnect between Obama’s rhetoric and his results. They know you don’t expand opportunity by beating up the rich. Even if they don’t know that, they know that his policies are not remedying the problems of which he constantly complains. This poll shows that Obama’s no longer escaping blame for the state of the economy.
Further, the poll reveals that only 27 percent said they believe the country is moving in the right direction, and a whopping 62 percent said it is on the wrong track. Think about that for a moment. Finally, people are awakening to the reality that Obama — not George W. Bush — “built this” economy. It’s on him.
Keeping all of this in mind, the GOP needs to stop talking about Obamacare being here to stay.
Republicans, quit looking over your shoulders; believe in yourselves. Rediscover your backbone. Full repeal. Full reversal of Obamanomics. Pro-growth policies. Reinvigoration of the free market. Full restoration of America’s strength and greatness.
David Limbaugh is right on. If the GOP wishes to win in November, they need to keep charging hard at the Democrats, and use Obamacare as a bludgeon to beat them. It is toxic to Democrats, and toxic to the American people. The law must be repealed and replaced with a patient-centered, free market based solution. The only way that happens is if Republicans gain total control of the Congress.

It isn’t “inexplicable” that the GOPe is backing down from repealing Obamacare. Their Chamber-of-Commerce and Corporate donors stand to save a fortune by dropping employee health coverage once the dust settles. Oh, the Republican establishment would like to change a few of the law’s provisions so that more of the cash flowing through this monstrosity goes to their special interests, but guys like Bohener and McConnell would never agree to let that all money and power out of their grasp.
Now if only someone could explain to me why the Republican establishment doesn’t have the spine to stop Amnesty. I just can’t figure that one out. /s

If the Republicans aren’t the party of the Law, then who will be? Certainly it isn’t the Democrats. They have demonstrated time and again that the Law is not even a guideline for them. This country yearns for Leadership and a return to an even application of the Law. Who will LEAD??

OK. As some of us have said for years, they are undocumented democrats. They support Dem policies and trash conservatives. Those are documented facts not open to debate. People who vote for them are likewise undocumented democrats. Because conservatives do not vote for any manner of liberal/democrat.

Yes, that’s true, and Limbaugh knows it. But Limbaugh and this editorial are urging the GOP, including the GOP-e, to quit being Dems and get out and offer an opposition.
We need to clamor for this, not just give up.
I just read a long essay on that issue this morning.
Before today, I “knew” that might happen, but I believed most corporations would continue to provide private insurance.
But, no, that outcome is very much in doubt, and it appears that most corporations are gearing up to dump tens of millions of employees onto the ObamaCare exchanges.

I've spent my entire life reading about or working in business.
I never dreamed I would wake up in 2014 and discover that Corporate America had joined forces with the Socialist Left to politically destroy American Conservatives.
We need to elect principled people. If there is a principled Repub on the ballot, I’m fine with voting for them. History has shown what happens when people vote GOP ‘just cuz’. We are living the result. We just had an election full of ‘just cuz’ and lost spectacularly. Then the rest ran left and now push Amnesty, moderation and gave up on Obamacare.
No more. If people keep going for wins regardless of principle, they are as much the enemy as a DU Democrat and should be identified as such.
Spine will not help them, they alllll have monsters in their closets, and that’s why they do nothing.
That’s a lovely idea, but we have to work with what we’ve got now. We can’t wait until we have only “principled people,” mostly because that’s never going to happen.
Politicians act on the basis of self-interest, even those who were originally principled when they got elected the first time. So we have to make it in their interest to do the right thing now.
Just writing it all off and saying you’re waiting for the perfect candidate sure doesn’t help our current situation. And we don’t have the luxury of wasting time.
It is a lovely idea. So lovely in fact that the founders built our country on it.
I am always impressed by Freepers who know better than they did. Perhaps they should go found a country based on their superior intellect and leave this one to the rest of us idiots.
