GOP challenger leads Dem incumbent Jeff Merkley — in Oregon

The Caller’s headline for this story is “Wave Year?”, with good reason. If we see another poll like this out of Oregon, I might have to break out the old “Waterloo” video.

Wehby, a Portland-based pediatric neurosurgeon, received the support of 40 percent of respondents, while an additional five percent say they are leaning towards supporting the first-time candidate. Merkley, who was elected to the Senate in 2008, garners the support of just 39 percent of respondents, with two percent saying they lean towards supporting him…

The poll also indicates that a plurality of voters in the deep-blue state see Obamacare as a mostly failed venture. Forty-six percent of respondents said Obamacare and Cover Oregon, the state’s disastrously flawed health care exchange, were failures, while 17 percent said they were successes, and 37 percent said they were “somewhere in between.”

I don’t like Wehby, but this is excellent news. It shows just how terrible the midterms will be for the rats. Then again, this could just be because Oregon’s health exchange will go down alongside the Hindenberg and Chernobyl in the ‘Guinness World Record F***ups’.

Oregon is more like CA on drugs than Texas.
You will never, ever get a conservative Senator elected in OR.
The best you can do is look very long term with the small possibility changing voters minds.

It is bad news for the rats, but Oregon may not be entirely representative, in that the Dem vote there is largely white. I doubt that they will loose as high a percentage of their minority base. If the doctor is a west coast version of Snowe, I don’t see it as good news for conservatives.

Gordon Smith was initially elected as a mainstream, pro-life conservative in 1996.

Hatfield and Packwood often effectively cancelled each other out. Morse was good—or at least is beloved by the older members of my family. Of course, the last election he won was in 1962.

A pro-life conservative who was tacking left as fast as he reasonably could. He is a cousin of the Udalls. I’ve never trusted Mormon politicians.

She is a west coast version of Snowe, perhaps a little more fiscall conservative, but all in all she’ll be in the Ayotte / McLame camp.

why is this good news?

The party holding the majority of the seats in the U.S. Senate runs the show. If you like Harry Reid as majority leader this is bad news.

I like the “optics” of Pediatric Surgeon running against Obamacare.

It’s a wonderful vision.

I am basing my comment on the 2010 election.
I was living in OR then and saw a united tea party, lots of energy.

Local elections changed but nothing changed at the top of the ticket.

OR, like CO and NH are going to need help from moderate Dems to
change there future.

Texas should go all in and start throwing out the trash which is Austin.

Right now, there isn’t enough conservative voters in OR to clean up Portland, Salem and Eugene.

Don’t get me wrong. Your heart is in the right place.
I just suggest we play chess and think 10 moves ahead instead of tic-tac-toe where everyone knows your next move.

Yes, he turned out to be quite squishy. I was very disappointed by him. Just saying that people did initially vote for him as a conservative. It can be done.

The problem is, and I’m including myself in this, too many of us are cowards. We don’t speak up often enough or loud enough for fear of being social outcasts.

Oregon passed a same-sex marriage ban as recently as 2004. Things can change quickly, but we have to speak loudly and vigorously support others who speak out.

We also have to remember how to ridicule the left. When we have been successful, we’ve always been able to do that.

and with her and others, the majority will still be leftist

Mitch McConnell might as well be Harry Reid
