Boehner to appoint select committee on Benghazi attack
The Hill ^ | 2 May 14 | Russell Berman

Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) said Friday he would appoint a select House committee to expand the Republican investigation into the deaths of four Americans in Benghazi, Libya, on Sept. 11, 2012.

Boehner had resisted a push by conservatives to name a special panel to investigate the terrorist attack, but a senior leadership aide said that new emails released by the Obama administration this week were “the straw that broke the camel’s back.”

“Americans learned this week that the Obama Administration is so intent on obstructing the truth about Benghazi that it is even willing to defy subpoenas issued by the standing committees of the People's House,” Boehner said in a statement.

“These revelations compel the House to take every possible action to ensure the American people have the truth about the terrorist attack on our consulate that killed four of our countrymen,” he added.

“In light of these new developments, the House will vote to establish a new select committee to investigate the attack, provide the necessary accountability, and ensure justice is finally served,” Boehner said.

The Speaker called the White House's withholding of emails “misleading” to the public and a “flagrant violation of trust [that] undermines the basic principles of oversight upon which our system of government is built.”

Rep. Trey Gowdy (R-S.C.), a member of the Judiciary and Oversight committees, is under consideration to lead the select committee and is said to be the preferred choice of Boehner and Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-Va.), officials said.

That is bafflegab baloney. "Trust" and "oversight" are at opposite ends of the spectrum.

Boehner is probably pissed that the smoke and mirrors aren't working to plan.

Republicans have long alleged that the administration falsely blamed the 2012 attack on a spontaneous response to an anti-Islamic video to protect President Obama as he ran for reelection and are pointing to the Rhodes email as proof.

What is most abhorrent to me is that not only did Obama have the producer of this joke a video thrown in prison, Obama went before the UNITED NATIONS, lied about the cause of the Benghazi attacks, and then THREATENED ALL AMERICANS FIRST AMMENDMENT RIGHTS on camera.

That is impeachable. If not, then nothing is.

White House press secretary Jay Carney on Thursday said the email was not provided to congressional investigators because it was not “explicitly” about Benghazi.

All this will do is give the Democrats and the media (but I repeat myself) someone to demonize.

There was a day when I would herald something like this.

I’ve seen the Republicans screw up so many investigations that I just laugh when I hear about another.

Where there’s a will there’s a way, and Boehner has all the will required.

Hate to be the one to inform you, but the NSA is already monitoring everyone with a computer, cell phone, GPS, or with specific cable companies.

Geez, Boner has a deeper tan than 0dumb0’s half-black/half whitey complexion. Boner really hits the tanning booths. 0dumb0 just hits on the gay bars & bathhouses.

I agree - but the Republicans are feckless by any definition. They wanted to "cut spending." Fine. What did they agree to? Cut Entitlement and welfare spending?

LOL!

The military is now less than 16% of the budget, yet it must "pay for" Sequester cuts of 50% of the TOTAL for the next 8 years. Military families (who have given the most to this nation) are being squeezed) while the Taker take even more.

Republicans cheered this. I am ashamed of them.
