Russian separatists down 2 choppers, fighting spreads to Odessa as Ukraine teeters

Pro-Russian separatists shot down two helicopters in a key eastern Ukrainian city, and fighting in the port city of Odessa triggered a fire that killed dozens, as the embattled nation moved closer to the brink of civil war.

Interim Ukraine President Oleksandr Turchynov said "many" pro-Russia rebels have been killed, injured and arrested in a major offensive to regain control of Slavyansk, though it was not clear if the Kiev-backed forces had succeeded. Russia reacted angrily to the offensive by Ukrainian security forces, calling for an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council after a spokesman for President Vladimir Putin warned it "effectively destroyed the last hope for the implementation of the Geneva agreements."

In the Black Sea port city of Odessa, Ukraine's third-largest city, a fire that broke out in a trade union building amid clashes killed 31. Fighting there represented another ominous milestone in the conflict that threatens to become a full-blown civil war, as Odessa holds huge historic significance for Russians and Ukrainians alike.

As quickly as they arrived, 'Klitshchko' and 'Poroshenko' boogied out of there fast....

Klitschko was 'a leader of Maidan' in the protests... though he aspired to run for President of Ukraine he was was denied ....determined by Kiev?US because they want him for Mayor of Kiev...multimillionaire through his professional boxing years... retired to go into politics...member of the "Elites" in Ukraine but only moved back to the area recently from the USA

Look, you cannot reason with someone who wonders why I haven’t called DHS to report an argument over the internet and who thinks that, because I haven’t, he’s made some sort of point.

I'll drop by your house, burn a member of your family to death in front of you, put a gun to your head, and whatever I ask you to do to avoid having the rest of your family murdered or your brains blown out will be of your own free will and not something you do under duress, right?

Except of course the situation you cite is just a strange fantasy in your head. If it isn't try citing some recognized source that says the parliament voted because their families were being murdered, and they voted with guns held to their heads in the parliament. You won't so just stop spouting nonsense.

Crimea was illegally annexed by Ukraine, so why shouldn’t Crimea separate from it?

Not true. Crimea had a referendum in 1991 where they freely decided to join Ukraine with 54% of the vote.

“Not true.”

Really? So you are saying the annexation in 1954 during the Soviet Union never happened?

Crimea was already annexed by the Russian Empire and then the Soviets about 200 years and got transferred to Ukrainian SSR in 1954. Administrative, not exactly annexation.

If Crimea didn’t have the option of leaving Ukraine when the Soviets collapsed, then your point would have some justification.

But they did. And they chose narrowly to remain as part of Ukraine rather than becoming independent and probably end up joining Russia again.

By your logic then you should be supporting their recent vote to join Russia and just shut up about it.

Well, there’s a difference between the Crimeans deciding to hold referendums for themselves, and Russia deciding to hold a referendum for them.

...with the help of thousands of Russian troops of course. You know. To make sure the voting is fair.

The Putin parrots are consistent. They have consistently ignored before yesterday all the beaten, kidnapped and murdered pro-Ukrainians.

Now one is outraged the Ukrainians allegedly stole a fire truck yesterday. Never mind the Ukrainians shot to death next to it. They are totally disinterested in the Ukrainians shot to death at the first street battle, the obvious Green Men on the scene, etc., etc.

Putin instigated the violence yesterday just like he has been doing all over S. and E. Ukraine. He used the same rent a mob backed up by armed Green Men playbook. The only difference this time is the Ukrainians fought back and a lot of people died.

That isn’t so. Many of those men are former Ukrainian military who took over armories that contained those manpads.
Its a lesson we may have to learn right here...

So the Parliament didn't vote while the mob was still in the streets outside?

The goons from the Right Sector and their pals were all sent to some other city beforee the vote?

There weren't still fires burning in sight of the building they were in?

Vladimir Putin Admits Russian Forces Helped Crimea Separatists

President Vladimir Putin admitted Thursday that Russian troops had been active in supporting separatist forces in Crimea.

Although Russia's Black Sea fleet had been stationed on the peninsula for decades, Putin's comments were the first confirmation that Moscow's troops had backed up the so-called "self-defense forces" in the region.

"The dangers to the Russian-speaking population in Crimea were very real," Putin said in a televised call-in broadcast nationwide. "We had never planned any annexations, we only took a decision to support Crimeans when they asked us to."
