I have mixed feelings on this (I worry somewhat about giving in to fascist speech suppression). In any case, Rice was very gracious about this whole thing and showed, as usual, a lot of class.

it’s distracting from what great things we’re doing as a university.

If the current student/faculty attitude is an example of the fruit of their labor, then I submit the great things the president thinks they are doing really aren't so great after all.

Guess that would have been a little too “diverse” for them. After all, she is a conservative [lite].

Rice could tell graduates how to perjure and lie , and still be a success. Look where it got her ?
Can you think of a better speaker for graduates for an Ivy League School where the average grade is A- ?
All of them should go into FEDGovernment .. Where there is the demand for intellectuals with no worldly expierience ! .... /sarc

Why would any American who professes to support the First Amendment donate to such an institution? Rutgers diplomas have been devalued by these faculty and students, who do not appreciate academic freedom for any opinions contrary to those of the Left.

Defund the Left, and certainly do not send your children to such narrow-minded institutions.

Figures, since Ms Rice has a list of real accomplishments, whilst that faculty is there because...what else could they do?

STEM faculty excepted, of course.

From the article: “Barchi had adopted a different tone this week: “I frankly wish from my point of view that this whole affair was not here right now because it’s distracting from what great things we’re doing as a university. … It does have us, for better or worse, right in the crosshairs right now.” “

And, in the crosshairs is precisely where Barchi put the institution by not providing the leadership needed in this incident.
The graciousness with which Rice extricated herself from this idiotic affair speaks volumes about her character.
The spineless response to student extortion speaks volumes about Barchi’s.

Rutgers needs to pay a $2.5 million dollar fine, and be forced to sell their university.

“I frankly wish from my point of view that this whole affair was not here right now because it’s distracting from what great things we’re doing as a university. …"

And what "great things" are that? Teaching your students how to be intolerant racists? Afraid to hear the thoughts of an educated and empowered black person?

On Fox and Friends they said it was a few professors and about 50 students, mostly Muslim, protesting.

An open letter to Rutgers President Robert Barchi:

Dear Mr. Barchi:

I am writing this letter as someone who is hardly a fan of Condoleeza Rice. I think she was symptomatic of all the wrong things that transpired among the big-government globalists who infested the upper reaches of this government during the Bush administration. But it would seem to me that a professor from Stanford University and that institution's former Provost and Chief Academic Officer is precisely the kind of person you would want to have as a commencement speaker. Of all the "great things" you claim Rutgers has accomplished over the years, I would say that successfully securing a commencement speaker with Dr. Rice's credentials should be one of them.

If the quasi-humanoid mutants who managed to chase a successful African-American woman of Dr. Rice's stature away from your university's commencement ceremonies this spring, please rest assured that I will not be hiring any Rutgers University graduates anytime soon.

Sincerely,

Alberta's Child
