German lawmakers fumed on Friday over “vicious” criticism by senior US senators of Chancellor Angela Merkel’s stance on Ukraine ahead of talks she will hold with US President Barack Obama.

John McCain, a former Republican candidate for the White House, on Thursday accused Merkel of standing in the way of firmer measures against Russia over its actions in Ukraine due to Berlin’s lucrative business ties with Moscow.

“I would tell her that I am not surprised but embarrassed at their failure of leadership. They’re the leaders, they’re being governed by the industrial complex from Germany,” McCain said.

Republican Senator Jeff Sessions echoed the rebuke, saying there needed to be “a clearer, more focused, more unified position, and Germany is right there in the middle of it.” …

Why doesn’t McCain suggest we go to war with Germany?

The American security guarantee brings with it moral hazard, such that the countries whose security is tacitly guaranteed (Germany, et al) slack off and make their defense policy one where they fight any would-be conqueror to the last dead GI. The fall of Ukraine may be necessary to prod both Asian and European countries into spending more money for defense, just in case Uncle Sam decides to sit out an attack on these countries by a foreign invader.

Merkel should drop a hint that German intelligence has info on McCain
selling arms to jihadis. He won't know whether they do or not. ;-)

That’s going to lead to war, not peace.

That’s next month. Right now he wants Germany to invade Ukraine to support the revolt he empowered. The moron, im sorry I ever voted for him. I sure learned a lesson.

McCain wont care. Hell, he openly posed for photos with Syrian Al Queida and later with Right Sector Nazis.

That’s going to lead to war, not peace.

The way moral hazard works is the guarantor of peace ends up bearing most of the costs, because the nations whose security is being guaranteed, weaken themselves to the point that their defenses are weaker than they would be, even with the guarantor's forces, if no alliance existed. And in so doing, they tempt an aggressor to invade, on the assumption that the guarantor will balk at the high costs of carrying allied deadweight. If there's going to be war anyway, why not let the nations directly affected fight it and bear most of those costs?

Probably. I’d still try to bluff him into shutting up if I were Merkel. McCain has to have something he doesn’t want to surface.

Because that’s not how it’s going to work. Nobody in this world that’s gearing up for war at this moment has any intention of leaving the USA untouched.

Being a hawk is not so bad, but it’s the craziness that is the problem here.

"John McCain, a former Republican candidate for the White House, on Thursday accused Merkel of standing in the way of firmer measures against Russia over its actions in Ukraine due to Berlin’s lucrative business ties with Moscow."

Merkel to McCain: "Hey Obama butt boy. We fought Russia twice and it didn't work out so well. Why don't YOU try it a couple of times. Then get back to us."

John is nearing retirement, thank God, but meanwhile, he SO-very much wants to be a big shot. To achieve Big Shot status, McCain shoots his mouth off just to provoke a reaction. Keep him away from the European Leaders. We don’t have time for his foolishness or for another nonproductive exercise in vanity. Obama’s group is probably all for allowing John McCain even more oppotunities to make a public fool of himself. Blaming Bush is not as much fun this late in the game. McCains’ follies will thankfully take the focus off John (aparthied in israel) Kerry.

LOL...I wonder if McCain understands how deeply ironic his statement is...

Just change a few words...
