Death threats stop gun store from selling 'smart' gun. Why?
The Christian Science Monitor ^ | 5/3/14 | Patrik Jonsson

Andy Raymond, a Rockland, Md., firearms dealer, found out how much some people who love guns and the Second Amendment really hate some guns, causing the owner of Engage Armament this week to reverse his plan to sell the Armatix iP1, the nation's first "smart" gun.

The German-made Armatix iP1 won't fire unless it's in proximity of a special watch, thus making it useless if stolen. Gun control advocates, including Attorney General Eric Holder, have cited such technology as potential life savers.

But the NRA and many gun owners say it's a government Trojan horse...

When Mr. Raymond said he'd sell the Armatix, he was deluged with complaints and threats against his life, even the life of his dog. Before relenting on Thursday, Raymond lashed out against his critics in a YouTube video.

"That's the antithesis of everything that we pro-gun, pro-Second Amendment people should be," he said. "You are not supposed to say a gun should be prohibited. Then you are being no different than the anti-gun people who say an AR-15 should be prohibited."...

I understand that the phone company keeps records that can be accessed with a warrant; with luck, the perps will be tracked down.

I would like a gun that this one except that it would fire forward if you were wearing the watch and fire backward if you were not or explode in your hand.

A backdoor could easily be installed in the watch allowing agents of the gov’t to turn it off.

nobody buys ‘em, then nobody will make ‘em. if nobody makes ‘em, the government can’t mandate them.

It’s a Trojan horse because some states already have laws on the books that say once so-called “smart guns” are on the market, “dumb gun” sales will be prohibited in X amount of time.

We ought to take a page from the Alinskyites’ own playbook and start pushing of “smart abortions” that don’t actually kill babies.

New Jersey is one of them, as it's pretty close to MD, this gun store owner should have known that.
He is one of Lenin's "useful idiots".

Think incandescent light bulb. The Trojan Horse was saving the planet to energy savings by government policy to regulation of manufacturing.

In this case, liberals are stuck on convincing the public of the problem. Next they get some more "reasonable gun laws" passed. Then we have this "technology" that makes all guns safe so we can pass manufacturing laws. Then technology is regulated and police can disable guns. Then guns can be rendered useless to the legal citizenry on demand.

One of the things they'll want is your watch...

Roger that. What’s to keep them from doing that very thing.

Not so fast. Clothes Dryers have plastic parts in transmissions because of "energy standards" regulations. You can't buy anything else and they aren't as durable or effective of machines built 30 years ago. You can't buy toilets that only need to be flushed once. Government regulated how a toilet must work. You can't buy certain incandescent light bulbs anymore either.

In any of these cases, how much did the consumer want in the way of supply and demand? Our behavior is now regulated through industry. If we are not vigilant, the same will go with firearms.

This new technology requires field testing by the best and the brightest. Gun dealers should embrace the technology and immediately insist on deploying the devices as the ONLY permitted sidearms for Gov O'Malley's state police protection detail, and then for the Secret Service detail for theOne.

Only once these high-tech devices have proven themselves as ready for prime-time, through battle-testing by trained professionals, they shouldn't be unleashed on untrained, unsuspecting Americans.

Obviously you know this is not how this would work. The law would be for private citizens only. All government officials would be exempt and be able to retain the "traditional" firearms under the guise of reliability in life or death situations.

"Someone, please, explain to me how this is a government Trojan horse?"

Here it is in black and white:

"...New Jersey lawmakers have passed legislation that all handguns in the state be “personalized” three years after smart guns become available. "

So -- what happens if the technology is not available to "personalize" your Colt 1911 -- a or any other weapons you currently own?

Can you spell, "confiscation"?

On the contrary, the government can “mandate” about anything.

If they mandated cars must get 100 mpg or they can’t be sold, then none would be sold.

And they’d love that for guns, especially.

Why aren’t all of the Federal police forces using smart guns, if they are so smart?

How much gunsmithing would it take to remove the “smart” gun features?

No idea, but I can guarantee that in states where such guns are mandated it would be made illegal to do so.
