The Republican Establishment Would Rather Lose Nebraska Than Support Conservatives
Red State ^ | May 5th, 2014 | Erick Erickson

The Republican Establishment always says conservative purists would rather lose than compromise. But the opposite is playing out in Nebraska.

The moment Ben Sasse got endorsed by the Senate Conservatives Fund, Mitch McConnell went all in for Shane Osborn. Well, Osborn is now toast. He has extremely high negatives, extreme negative poll numbers, and outside groups have just finished him off with an ad blasting his involvement in a made up military memo.

That leaves Sid Dinsdale who’d have you know he is a lifelong Republican despite years of significant giving to Democrats. Dinsdale too, however, is behind in the polls. Though he has poured a ton of personal money into the race, time is very short for him.

So it looks like a Mitch McConnell affiliated group has decided to soften Ben Sasse up for the Nebraska Democrats. In fact, they made the decision right about the time Ted Cruz and Mike Lee endorsed Sasse. They’d rather lose Nebraska than have a Ted Cruz ally in the Senate. They’re engaged in a purity test of their own.

What’s more awkward? The guy who is placing the hit on Ben Sasse is Rep. Tom Cotton’s campaign manager for his Senate race.

The ad buy of just over $100,000.00 has been made by Freedom Pioneers Action Network. That group was created by the guy who ran McConnell’s Super PAC in Kentucky and by McConnell’s then campaign manager, Justin Brasell.

Justin Brasell, a long time McConnell associate, is now running Rep. Tom Cotton’s campaign for the Senate in Arkansas. Brasell’s name is on the Federal Election Commission disclosure of the anti-Sasse ad buy.

There’s no way for Osborn to win now. It’s nearly impossible for Dinsdale to do so, but if he does, the GOP will have nominated a man who has funded Democrats against them. It is entirely plausible and probable that the establishment so hates Sasse getting conservative support, they’d rather lose Nebraska than win with a guy supported by conservatives across the nation.

Instead of purity of principles, it’s all about the purity of profit for them.

Conservatives want to restore the Republic and end political corruption.

Republicans are happy with the corrupt system they helped build.

They don’t want change, they just want to get back on top and get first shot at the graft and loot.

Let’s hope the Cornhuskers are smarter than the Kentuckians this time.

We know about the gop-e, but the American people don't know.

You ought to live in Kentucky and be forced to watch Mitch McConnell’s disgusting tactics up close.

Harry’s Bitch [Mitch] is going to get a real surprise in November when he thinks he’s going to coast on the votes of the “lesser than two evils” crowd. He is burning bridges with conservatives here at a prodigious rate.

It is becoming abundantly clear this time around that Republican traitors are not a lesser evil, only a different and more stealthy evil. There is a special spot in Dante’s Hell for the betrayers of our trust. Those who kiss our cheek and slip a knife in our back.

Ah dear old Mitch....the only solution I can think of is MATT BEVIN.

I live right across the river in southern Ohio and get all the N. Kentucky Mitch McConnell ads.

Bevin could use some support right now.

It’s time we conservatives wake up and acknowledge that the GOP is not a conservative political party and never has been.

That means that conservatives like me who have been registered Republicans all our lives are the real RINOs. We are the true Republicans In Name Only because we believe in values that the GOP has never truly upheld.

So, it turns out that it’s a incorrect use of the term “RINO” to call crooks and scalawags like McConnell, Boehner and McCain RINOs. We’re the RINOs.

I think Ol’ Mitch is just concerned that when the R’s take the Senate, there might be too many conservatives who will try to keep him out of the Harry Reid seat. Missed it by that much.

I actually agree with you the GOP-E is the real republican party. But, I’m not a republican in name only. I’m an independent conservative who will vote with Republicans when they have an acceptable candidate or program that is mostly conservative.

I’ll not compromise on God, Life, Self-Defense, or Small Government. It’s not possible to be wrong on any of those and still be considered “mostly conservative”.

Conservatives supporting republicans have lost sight sometimes of the best way to explain themselves.

We are a constituency that republicans can win election by election if they promote conservative ideals.

Mitch is too slick for an honest Senator to support.

That’s why he supports slickster republicans like Dinsdale who spends his money supporting democrats.

Very true. McConnell is a Big Government politician and therefore is a Republican; Gohmert (for example) is a conservative and therefore is a RINO.

The Republican Establishment always says conservative purists would rather lose than compromise.
This has always been projection on the part of the Establishment Republicans.

They threw Barry Goldwater under the bus rather than taking a risk on a conservative winning the Oval Office in 1964. And they would have done the same with Ronald Reagan had he not agreed to bring their guy, George HW Bush, aboard the ticket in 1980.

The GOPe will never again allow a conservative to win the Presidency. IMO.

We know about the gop-e, but the American people don't know.

They were always corrupt, even when they were running contraband cotton through the lines in 1863 and 1864 to sell for the accounts of (among others) Lincoln political general Ben Butler (later Governor of Massachusetts).

After the war, we got the Credit Mobilier, Orville Babcock's Whiskey Ring, the phony "personhood [and rights]" of artificial persons (corporations), and other juridical and political bagatelles too numerous to mention, right up to Albert Fall's Teapot Dome follies, when he sold oil out of the Navy Petroleum Reserve for graft money.

That was back when Washington grafters were still thinking small.

Now they graft and loot on an intercontinental scale, and as you say, they're able to keep it out of the papers, and the People in the dark.

Now it get nastier

Canadidate Cotton’s campaign manager is funding anti-Sasse pacs to the tune of several 100k. The latest one is a hit pieces using Sasse’s children in commercial so bizzaro it’s bound to more confuse.

Just like 2012 in Deb Fischer’s campaign, the GOPe is throwing everything with the hopes that something stinks.
