Are you someone who thinks there are no historical connections between the Confederacy and California? Did you know the Great Seal of the State of California was designed by Robert S. Garnett while in the US Army at the Presidio? He left California to join the Confederacy in his native Virginia, and was the first General Officer killed on either side - 13 July 1861.

Good question.
The text of the bill should be interesting.

Flags of the Confederacy:

The First National Confederate Flag

The Second National Confederate Flag (Stainless Banner)

The Third National Confederate Flag

The Army of Northern Virginia Flag

The Bonnie Blue Flag

I’m not certain why your reply was directed to me. I provided a link detailing an attempted secession to join the Confederacy in Southern California.

No, it just forbids the state government and its agencies from selling anything with an image of a Confederate flag (presumably meaning the Confederate battle flag that seem to exercise so many on the left). Private persons in California will still be able to sell and display the Flag of the Army of Northern Virginia (or C.S.A. Naval Jack, if you prefer).

The main effects of the silly law will be that no agency of the State of California will be able to sell posters with the flags of all the states, or lithographs of Civil War battle scenes in which the southern forces are displaying their battle flags.

“So how many California state government offices were selling things with the confederate flag on them?”

Yeah, the Confederacy was such a big part of California History, so sales must be huge!

“Maybe it’s just me but it sorta strikes me that an assemblyman from Compton has bigger things to worry about than replica Confederate money. Otoh, maybe the gang bangers and dope dealers which invest the Compton area will put down their guns when they hear about this. “

Ole Ike be a “Holder’s Person,” so it only makes sense. He probably moved here from Mississippi to run for office and “take up the cause of “The Confederacy in California.” Clearly a “gut issue” in Compton, a town where white folks don’t ever go if they are smart. I fact, the Mexicans are probably persona non grata too!

So they'll stop right there and not pursue additional regulation?

If they extend it beyond what the state government and its agencies may do, it becomes a violation of the First and Fourteenth Amendments. As written, the law is not, contrary to the claim in the post to which I replied.

As I noted, it is a stupid bill, and its enactment would chiefly have the effects I pointed out in my prior post.

Maybe we'll just have to ban history books.

Ban? That's not nearly enough. For maximum sensitivity, we'll have to confiscate them from libraries, bookstores and households and light them up.

In a police state there is no place for the right of free speech.

The government will tell people what they can think and say.

Guess they will have to do what all communists countries do....excise the history books.

According to the article, history books are exempted.

I guess my point is this seems to be the direction these intrusive regulations and laws are going since those in government have demonstrated their increasing desire to control and or regulate everything. For example the increasing push to mute, regulate and apply limits to the First Amendment and Second Amendment among other Constitutional rights.
