Climate change affecting every region of US, new WH report finds

By Laura Barron-Lopez - 05/06/14 09:08 AM EDT

A new White House report released Tuesday concludes that human-generated climate change is having dramatic effects on every part of the nation.

The National Climate Assessment, which the administration touted as the most comprehensive look yet at global warming in the U.S., concludes that climate change is raising temperatures, making water more scarce and wildfires more common.

It said climate change has “moved firmly into the present” for the U.S., underscoring the need for urgent action to combat threats.

“Americans are noticing changes all around them,” the report states. “Summer are longer and hotter, and extended periods of unusual heat last longer than any living American has ever experienced. Winters are generally shorter and warmer.”

The report adds that coastal residents are seeing “more dramatic” changes with the increase of flooding.

“Observations unequivocally show that climate is changing and that the warming of the past 50 years is primarily due to human-induced emissions of heat trapping gases,” the report states.

President Obama, who has made combatting climate change a central part of his second term, plans extensive outreach on Tuesday to spread the findings of the report.

Obama plans to conduct one-on-one interviews with national and local TV meteorologists Tuesday, in what some have called a new strategy for the administration to communicate his climate agenda.

Obama's administration is pursuing new rules on carbon-emitting coal-powered plants as part of an effort to tackle climate change. The administration also recently punted a decision on building the Keystone XL pipeline, which environmental groups argue would significantly add to climate change.

Skeptics called the report another “scare tactic” by the administration.

“Facing a recovering, yet fragile, economy, with families across the country struggling to make ends meet, it is concerning that the Obama Administration is busy promoting its politically driven climate change agenda, instead of addressing the real issues plaguing our nation,” said Laura Sheehan, of the American Coalition for Clean Coal.

Critics of the Obama’s climate agenda argue that rather than pressing action on cutting emissions overseas, the administration should visit U.S. communities being impacted by the “costly regulations” on power plants it is working to finalize.

The highly publicized report comes on the heels of the United Nations global climate change report, which offered similar conclusions for the planet.

The new report includes research and evidence from 13 federal agencies. It found the average temperature in the U.S. has increased by 1.3 degrees Fahrenheit, coming in at 1.9 degrees Fahrenheit since 1895.

A majority of that increase took place since 1970, the report states. And the most recent decade was the nation’s hottest on record, with 2012 being the hottest year on record in the U.S.

The change in climate in the last 50 years, the report concludes, is a result of human activities, mainly from the burning of fossil-fuel energy sources.

The report breaks the U.S. into seven regions, detailing specific climate changes in each.

It said climate change is leading to drought in the Southwest, greater heat waves and precipitation in the Northeast, and lower crop yields as a result of rising carbon dioxide in the Midwest.

No different here than they were 50 years ago.

Giant Metropolitan areas with large columns of warmer air rising over them WILL disrupt the jet stream MORE than the CO2 the cars running onthe roads are putting out.

Of course climate is being affected by our actions, but the question is HOW MUCH and is there even anything REASONABLE that we can do about it that won’t seriously affect our civilisation.

Do the Libs seriously expect us to move back into caves and kill off 99% of the human population? Well a good number of these insane control freaks actually do!!!!!!

I say that even if we belive inthe Liberal History of the earth the issue is that by their accoutn evolution has tried “tooth and claw” evolution for ground based animal live for almost 350 MILLION years and got NO WHERE! It is only the evolution of BRAINS that can allow us to do wonderful things like question where we came from. “Tooth and Claw” evolution will do nothing for animals in 100-200 million years when the sun heats up and makes life untainable on the earth. Even if we strip mine the earth, and colonize space, even if only save 1/1000 of the species that is far more than if we all stayed dumb and “with nature” on earth till the sun burns us to a crisp.

Enviro-whack-a-doodles are morons.

The only “man made” climate changes occur in small areas known as cities. Hardly “GLOBAL”. Hardly “CLIMATE”. The concentration of people and their heat producing stuff (scientific term), does raise the temperature, slightly, in those areas. Blacktop, attracting the heat of the sun, the removal of trees and vegetation, heat producing equipment, etc., do have an affect in LOCAL areas.

Again, Hardly “GLOBAL”. Hardly “CLIMATE”.

Puny man CANNOT affect the “Global” climate. The hubris of man to even think he could, is laughable. The earth is HUGH! Man is small.

These people are NUTS! They are seriously considering controlling cow farts! How far behind can “human” farts be? “The government” has no business (or right) to control farts. Controlling farts, (do I have to mention that this folly is also impossible to implement and would have no effect if it were?) is not one of the enumerated powers.

BUT, they are DANGEROUS! The low information voters (a nice way to say “idiots”) gobble this garbage up. “The government must be right. The news media would tell us if it weren’t”.

So go ahead and laugh (not to hard, you might fart), but don’t dismiss these crazy people. Before you know it, you will be farting in a bag and delivering it to a government agency for storage in an underground facility.

Interesting how little ole us can change the climate of the entire effin’ planet with very little effort, but building a border fence is impossible.

Biologists have always known that carbon dioxide is essential for plant growth, and of course without plants there would be very little animal life, and no human life, on the planet. The climate alarmists have done their best to obscure this basic scientific truth by insisting on describing carbon emissions as “pollution” — which, whether or not they warm the planet they most certainly are not — and deliberately mislabeling forms of energy that produce these emissions as “dirty.” In the same way, they like to label renewable as “clean.”

Seems to me...that logically...if you really take all of this AGW bull-sh1t as “fact” and absolutely believe in it...then the only outcome that is sufficient....is vast elimination of ninety percent of the human race. The “blessed” survivors living off of the land with absolutely no infrastructure as hunters and gatherers, no electricity, nothing. There is no other alternate conclusion if you accept all of the AGW cultists concocted story, as is.

I’ve listened to members of my own family spew this garbage. Their “belief” in it is cultish in that they DO NOT want to be confronted by facts that fly counter to their faith in global warming. They get defensive, argumentative and offended that I would challenge their “belief”. I’ve given the fuck up on them. It’s a damned shame, because I know that they’re smarter than that, but it’s not about smarts. It’s about feelings. Like so much of the communist program, it does not stand up to scrutiny. It relies on non-thinking, feeling based cult-like belief. You have to wave bye-bye to your brain, jump the shark and DECIDE to roll with the dark side, because it “feels” right. There’s an awful lot of that in this country right now and I believe it’s a prelude to some seriously bad sh1t coming down ...as if the bad sh1t that’s here already isn’t bad enough!

Same here, I also confront them with the fact that we humans do more to prevent and stop annual forest and grassland fires that would rage across several states before the west was settled. And they still seem to think that CO2 is the horrible boogie man.

One of my favorite lines it “My favortie form of sequestering carbon is to build houses!” That seriusly pisses them off..

yep... the argument is a win/win for them. climate is changing? Global warming... long extended periods of high temps, or low temps? Global warming...

Climate changes and is in constant flux...most of these idiots aren’t aware of the climate changes and ice ages that occured long before bio fuels..

idiots.. I can’t stand’em.... or as someone once said in my favorite TV show, “hey, can’t standja!”...

Is this guy serious? Interview the people who READ the weather reports on TV? WOW!

How much does man make? If you know I’d like to ask to have the temps turned up a bit, particularly where I live and specifically during the winter.

Do you know Mr. Bush or Mr. Rove? I’d heard they either have a working model or a test unit weather machine. Feel free to FReepmail me the details and any pricing information you may have.

I’d be looking at lows of 40-50 degrees during the winter in Chicago, low wind and just a snowfall or two around Christmas. If the costs are reasonable I’ll pay myself, but if they’re too high perhaps I can ask my neighbors to pitch in. There might even be some money set aside for climate change by our local government. Thanks in advance.

Now, they are nearly done blooming. Imagine that!

Ditto for my azaleas. Why, just 10 days ago, they were beginning the bloom cycle and now they're already on the back end of it. Global warming, for sure. It must be.

First it gets hot, then it starts to cool off and everything dies. Then it freezes solid. Then it starts to warm up again and it gets really hot...

Happens every year. We MUST stop these changes in the climate... Can’t it just be 80 and sunny year round? The Feds can fix this right?

This perfectly follows Hitler’s rules on propaganda. Straight out of Mein Kampf. Tell a big lie, repeat it ad nauseum and demonize opponents.

It worked for the Nazis and Communists. The new Nazis / Communists are replaying a very old tune.
