Does the desire to prevent violence override the First Amendment rights of citizens?
In one California school, the answer is yes.

Phony "holiday", real threat to Americans. "Race"? Oh, the Spanish race. Is that anything like the Dutch race or the Portugese race? Or maybe the Alabaman race? The Virginian race? WTH is going on. (rhetorical question)

So now school policy is going to be based on kowtowing to the students who threaten the loudest?

So now this school believes that the mere suggestion that a particular minority might become violent is enough to not cancel the cinco de Mayo celebration but instead threaten the students who want to display the US flag. Disgusting.

That’s like saying that the black students in Alabama and Mississippi in the 50s should not have tried going to white schools, because of the threat of violence.

It’s NOT an American holiday, and therefore does NOT Matter.
Wear our flag and wave our flag anyway, regardless of the consequences. Wake up, America... we outnumber them.
They win because we back down. Stop backing down.
F*** ‘em.

This is similar to the way that conservative speakers at college campuses are disinvited due to the violence threatened by liberal students. All this does is encourage an atmosphere of violence and intimidation toward conservatives...which is fine with school administrators!

The date is observed to commemorate the Mexican army's unlikely victory over French forces at the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862, under the leadership of General Ignacio Zaragoza Seguín. Need one of those on-the-street reporters asking them what they are celebrating.

That has been a goal of the left since the 50’s.

Waving the American flag is racist and traditional Christian values are controversial!
What happened to my country?

Yes, except if the threateners are “white”.
