Tea Party challengers terrorizing the Republican establishment again

This might be the year of the state senator. That’s not necessarily a good thing. It’s how Barack Obama got his start. Several ambitious state senators are challenging incumbent Republican senators, and the prospect of surprises from the heartland terrifies the Republican establishment.

Some incumbents apparently no longer actually live in the states they represent, having outgrown their bucolic origins and aspire to the undisturbed life in Hollywood on the Potomac, bathed in the twinkle and tinsel of an ersatz Hollywood.

The patricians of the Republican establishment — party moguls from yesteryear, aspiring kingmakers, PAC artists and corporate patriots — are trying to kill the Tea Party graveyard dead, so the patricians can retreat to the gentle Capitol Hill life of going along to get along. Tea Party zealots, who think passion and zealotry in the cause of reform is what the market is waiting for, are out to teach the party establishment to treat them with a little respect. No more Rodney Dangerfield.

Establishment Republicans, with their green-eyeshade DNA, are always afraid of controversy, and learn to deal with it reluctantly, and usually not very well. This puts them at disadvantage, often fatal, with Democrats, who love hubbub, chaos and brawling. “Democrats are like alley cats,” a wise old party elder in the South once observed. “Democrats fight, and alley cats fight, and the result is more Democrats and more cats.”

"Terrorizing"?

Are these Tea Party terrorists running up to GOPers and throwing buckets of tar on them? Waving firearms? Off color language?

Terrorizing indeed. Nice spin.

“Hollywood on the Potomac”

I am going to remember that one. It is a classic!

The article continues to make the mistake of assuming Todd Akin was a Tea Party guy. He NEVER was.

yes, I know, some TP folks fell for the lie, but it was not the case. He was a six term estab Congressman in a safe district, and he was so pathetic that the Claire McCaskill team ran ads and told their voters to push him past two other good candidates in the Primary. Now Rove and Barbour would have us believe that he was a TP problem….BULL….he never was.

I don’t doubt that the GOPers live in terror that they may lose their seat at the table of the elite. Now that they have seen the other side of the curtain they know how much worse their lives will be if they have to return to being a peon.

Right, if Sarah Steelman (a woman), the Tea Party candidate was the nominee, there would have been no rape question in MO and then subsequently in IN.

But Huckabee endorsed Akin and basically so did McCaskill and he won, and then lost.

Had Steelman been the nominee, she’d likely be a senator today as well as Mourdock. They knew exactly what they were doing.

And in addition to Steelman, there was a candidate named Bruner who I think was even better than STeelman, though both were fine candidates. Had Bruner won, the same positive domino effect would have happened as you described.

Two good candidates and one idiot, and the Huckleberry nimrods and the Claire cross overs made sure the idiot got the nod.
